From research I have done they are pretty decent trannys. The 5 speed is the stronger out of the two. People making power or planning to generally stay away from the 6 speeds because they are weaker. You will hear stories of peoples 6 speeds taking a crap and you will hear stories of people swearing by their 6 speed. For daily driving either or is fine. Plan on making power find a 5 speed if you do not have one already.

+1

Depends on what you want to do with your car. If you're looking to daily driver a 6 speed will last you a lifetime as long as you take care of it and do your fluid changes when needed. If you're looking for power and tracking consider a 5 speed and they hold more power and are more "reliable" according to many Evo owners to date.

A lot of people regret getting the 6 speed due to that reason mentioned, but it all depends on how the previous owner took care of the car as well.
