I usually spray some mix of water and car soap in a bottle, under the whole car, as much as I can reach, and inside the wheel well and make sure to clean the suspension too. Then I spray it all off with a pressure washer, but a hose would work fine too. It's best if you can find somewhere indoors to spray it so it doesn't all freeze, but even if it does that's better than not cleaning it at all.

this is about to be my first winter in my evo as well. except i got 215/45/17 blizzaks from a friend who works at discount, for the low cost of 2 visits to coldstone. ~85-90% tread life. i think they came off a beamer. but luckily here in co they dont use actual salt for the roads. they use some kind of chemical rock.

Do not use those tires. I don't care if they were free. They are to narrow and to low of a profile. 235-45-17 is factory. You want that meat on the tire Incase Of potholes or your going to bend or damage your wheels.

Narrower is better for winter. If they fit, use em.

Thinner is def better for the snow obviously there is no debate on this.

However, I wouldn't go to a 215. A 225 on the stocker would be fine and is what most use in a dedicated snow tire on the stockers.

I run factory size snows on mine

So all the professional rally teams that run very narrow tires for snow rallies are wrong? Back up your claim?

better hope that was an AWD Beamer and there are worn evenly, for your drivetrain's sake.

big wide tires in snow? yeah, no.

I have ran 225-45-17 and I'll never do it again. Doesn't sound like much but it was a hell of a rough winter. To low profile and it look stupid *** hell also. 235-45-17 is perfect IMO. Do what you want but I know for a fact it's not a good idea for either 215 or 225. 215's don't even fit the wheels properly. They would be stretched an give ZERO protection for the wheel. $100 says your wheels get some type of damage.

^ This, you don't want to put tires on an evo that were used by a RWD car and worn unevenly. You'll pay for it big time down the road with an AWD drivetrain.

Also I would stick to 235 if you are using stock wheels IMO.

I run 225/45/17 blizzaks on my stockers and have had no issue at all. It's a tiny bit skinnier than a 235/45/17 which is really not even noticeable. The sidewall is still the same so it's not any more low profile than a 235/45/17. 225 would be the skinniest I would go though IMO. Mine work great!
