Use the car as it was designed or sell it. If you want great MPG buy any number of cheap econoboxes.

stay out of boost, shift before 3k. lean out your cruise tune. thinner oil, tire pressure. intakes actually helps mpg. some say...
otherwise, sell it if gas bothers you.
the evo isnt fuel efficient. its awd, the worst platform for fuel efficiency.

if u can afford the car, u can afford the gas. if u cant afford the gas, you cant afford the car. (its outside your affordability)

The best MPG I ever get from my evo is approximately 30mpg! EVO is not a terrible car in terms of fuel economy. It's the way you drive the car and tune. I have HKS intake, turbo, cams, walbro 255, 3" turbo back and a tune. I got 30mpg when I was crusing on highway . also skip a gear when shifting is a way to save gas, 1-3-5, but most important thing is tune. No need to put stock parts back

This is not true, evo can be fun and economical at the same time. It is a 2.0 Turbo engine, a proper tuned evo if staying out of boost the EVO is just like a regular 2.0 NA engine, I get avg 23-25MPG in mix driving and 29-30MPG all highway driving.

If that's your lifetime average, then yes. Last time I checked, I think my average was 21.6 or 21.7. But I've said it numerous times, I can hit 25-26 mpg on the highway pretty easily (as long as there isn't a lot of traffic) while having hit 30 mpg before and 29 mpg twice, though those are obviously far less common. Bone stock Evo IX SE.

staying out of boost and accelerating slowly will be the biggest savings. but that is not very fun. weigh out what means more to you. fun or mpg

But it's not like you have to drive one way exclusively. Similarly, you don't necessarily need to have "fun" every time. Do I have fun when I see an onramp? Usually. But if I'm just making that 100+ mile to visit my family or making my two-mile commute to work with a total of three turns, I can just drive the car like it's any regular car. It makes you appreciate the car's stock abilities more that way, uncorking it every now and then.

hey, i dont have problem with the gas. so i think that if some evos do 17 or more MPG, my evo can do 17 or more MPG too. so i use it daily, i wont sell it. i reduced the AFR from 0 to 3000 RPM but there is not too much difference... im getting 14.7 MPG
