Engine starting problem

Hey guys, this morning when I went to drive to work I went to start my evo vii and when I turned the ignition the engine turned over but wouldn't start. After a few tries and whilst pumping the gas she started and idled normallyy and drove fine to work...

Being new to Evos i'm wondering if someone wouldn't mind telling me some fairly common items that I could check to try solve this problem. I have noticed on other mornings when i've gone to start my car the engine has struggled to start up but does after a couple of seconds...

Cheers

What fuel? E85? I know E85 can be a PITA on cold starting and even warm starts if the tune isn't perfect. If you're on 93 or 91 them you might need to look into these few things
FPR
Fuel pump
Spark plugs
It's sounds like it could be a fuel pump problem or maybe your tune unless you haven't changed anything and the cold start ups were good. Then you have something crapping the bed.

I'm from NZ so can only run 98 unfortunately =/

Considering the car was running fine after start up wouldn't that rule out the fuel pump playing up?

The only mods the engine has is an aftermarket intake and external wastegate.

Please note I do park on a hill...could it be simply the fuel just setling in the lines overnight and needing me just to pump it a few times before the engine has sufficient fuel to start?

LOL, I know, right?!

My guess is your mention of parking on a hill. If your parked up hill the fuel might have just needed a second to re-presurize the line?

Was the old owner not me....it's venting into atmosphere too

Getting a new manifold and swapping out the wastegate is on the list of things to do...

I might try parking on the flat overnight tonight and i'll see if I have the same problems tomorrow morning, hopefully it's just the fuel being effected due to the angle of the hill

I had this issue and then the next time I went to start it wouldnt, turned out it was a bad battery. I'd check the battery and confirm that its good so you dont get stuck in some random parking lot.

I think it could be the battery by looking at the condition of it. I'll do some tests tonight when I get home but for the time being would you, or anyone, be able to tell me the specs on a replacement battery i'll need to look for when buying one?

Batteries are subjective. In my opinion, get a battery with the highest CCA (cold cranking amps) you can find.
I personally have a small battery with 220 CCA. It works for me, but I'm garaged all the time, at home and work).

I believe the battery should be around 12.6v when the car is not running. After its been running I believe it should be roughly 14.2v if this helps. If it is the battery, just bring the car to an autozone or similar shop and they will replace it for you.
