Need clarification on transmission oil

Hopefully this isn't too dumb, but I'd like some verification.

I had a leaking front axle a while back, had it replaced, but I'm not confident the shop checked the oil level, and it being the dealer, I don't want to go back to them.

Which oil would it have been that was leaking. Was if the manual transaxle oil?

And is the manual transaxle oil the same thing as the transmission oil? The alphabetical index in the manual lists "Manual Transaxle (Transmission)", but I want to double check.

And AFAIK, I'm looking to use a GL-4 oil for this.

Yes, manual transaxle == tranmission

If a front axle was leaking, it should be diff oil that was leaking, not tranny oil.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So then, is the diff oil the same as transfer oil? For this, I'm looking for a GL-5 ?

Thanks.

I guess any time you talk about oil, everyone has a different opinion. I was going to use RedLine 80W-140 for the t-case, after reading teamrip.com, as they say to avoid DiaQueen if you have RedLine around.

But then again, they list dragging and track as the application, and I'm just daily driving it, so maybe RedLine is for higher abuse.

Edit: gonna go with the following. Please let me know if I'm headed for trouble:

transmission: RedLine MT90
transfer case: RedLine 80W-140 GL-5
rear axle: DiaQueen 3775610 (because I have enough left from a friend)

Edit 2: I should add that I do sometimes tow motorcycles. The SV650 is ~400lb, the CRF250X is around 270, plus ~150lb for the trailer. Maybe that would justify the RedLine stuff.
