Keep the ix or meet the x?
#31
The thing I am trying to figure out is the "bigger" X. One thing that has always amazed me about my VIII is the size of the back seat. That disappeared with the X model. I hear the trunk is smaller on the X too.

What trunk? Honestly one of the worst things on the X is the trunk since the both the battery and the windshield washer bottle are back there.

Two ways to look at modding:
1. Modding for a better drive, then enjoying driving the car from that time on. There's rarely a sense of disappointment, as the modding is a means to an end and the drive (in itself) is the object of affection.
2. Modding for the sake of modding: This always results in dissatisfaction, as the ultimate goal of an automobile - ie. what the thing actually is and what it actually does - is not the object of the pursuit. One can never be happy, because the car is just a prop for something entirely different. Automotively speaking, it's pissing money into the wind.
BTW, I agree with the comment.

EVO X's are nice and they have grown on me these last couple years. My buddy just bought a brand new one a couple months ago. To me though, the IXs are the best year for an EVO. Not just the 4G63, but the car overall. Yes, the interior is not the most luxurious (obviously) but the car is still comfortable and fun to drive. I def wouldnt say the IXs are becoming more rice. Even the prices on the IXs are holding value. Hell, their selling a 06 IX MR local to me for 32gs with 30k miles. I would say keep the IX. The X's are nice, but owning a IX now and moving to a X i would say you would regret it. Its just my opinion of course. But GL man!

I I've owned 2 X's and I'm now in a 8. Personally I like the feel of the 8/9 better. Feels more like a race car. The X is a little better comfort and interior wise but not by much. Driving 100 miles a day I see little difference between the 2. I'd stick with your 9.

If it's going to your only car, the X makes way more sense. As a second car though, it's hard to beat the thrill, rawness and bang for the buck performance factor of the IX. I normally don't like to comment on these 8/9 vs X threads because I have good friends that drive well setup Xs (and I have driven a few at local time attacks so i know full well what they are capable of) but it absolutely drive me up the walls when X owners say they make more power mod for mod.
Fact: 9 turbos are capable of flowing more power - 400whp+ dynojet on straight 93 is not unheard of. ditto 10s 1/4 mile stock longblock stock turbo Evo 8/9s. Full bolt on vs full bolt on, evo 9s make more power.
handling: yes Xs understeer less out of the box, but it's only because USDM 8/9s got shafted out of AYC and the 1.5way rear diff. Guess what? For as little as $180+ labor for the Weir 12 plate mod, the attitude of the car can be changed significantly. for naysayers, do yourself a favor and check out Best Motoring videos on youtube where pro racer/journalist Nakaya Akihiko performs "zero counter" (read: 4 wheel drift through the Dunlop corner and the long final sweeper at Tsukuba) in stock JDM CT9As.
Now back to the question at hand, the biggest thing that made me appreciate my IX RS wasn't the dbb FP Red, it wasn't the Ohlins... it was getting a daily driver. in the summer time my 96 Prelude VTEC gets 400 city miles to the tank and cost virtually zero dollars to upkeep. Now I can not only keep the miles off the Evo, I can enjoy it for the raw crazy car that it is on nice days/weekends. to put things in perspective, I recently bought a clean gen2 swapped/CT20B MR2 for a project and it blows my mind how good the steering/chassis/drivetrain is in the Evo every time I take it out.
IMHO you can always buy Evo Xs, but clean IXs that you know the history of are only getting harder and harder find. I say keep it and buy a DD.

But yeah, the rear battery placement eats up all that space, since they move other stuff and put up that little "wall" to make it a bit more flush looking.

I came from an 05 8, to an 08 X.
The 05 was E85 / Stock turbo, making 360/410. Super fun car to drive, but after my wife and I bought an 09 FX35 for her, I realized how "****ty" the 8 felt.
8's/9's are just starting to look outdated at this point, and as much as they are amazing cars, you have to move on with the times. The X is an upgrade from a 9, because, well, it is a better car. More power/tq from the factory, smoother delivery, better handling, etc.
I am in absolute love with my new X. It's a full bolt on car, wicked white. The interior is amazing, from the seats to the RF sound system (SSS Package). The HID headlights are a huge improvement over the 8/9 HID's, sharper cutoff. My car is on BC's and rides like it's on air, super comfy, no squeaks/rattles/etc.
You can just tell it's a newer, nicer car.
If your $ can afford it, the X is definitely a good move.
