drivetrain help

So I installed my output shaft and then while installing my driver side axle I ran into this. It feels like it bottomed out put if i spin the axle it feels like its not splined together if that makes any sense.

Kinda makes sense... I pulled my axles a month or so ago. i rememeber fighting them a little bit. Pull the axle and make sure there are no burrs or anything on the splines, clean it up. (just in case you havn't allready) then put it back in. play with it untill you think the splines are started, then get a dead blow hammer or 2x4 and give it some tapps. If it doesn't do anything or feels like its hitting metal then idk.
