Breaking up at top end only sometimes

Hi i have a 2006 Evo 9 all stock but a perrin intake and a tune with about 42,000 miles on it... The car runs great and idles fine but right at 6.200 sometimes it will break up and backfire no smoke will come out... it will only do it when the car idle's or putt's around at 2-3k rpm around town for more than 30mins

I am going to change spark plugs... I don't think that would fix it but eh... any idea's would be great i know fuel pump and coil packs... but kinda odd

I change my plugs every-time I change my oil you should look into that. Couldn't hurt they are cheap to replace.

sounds like misfiring, spark plugs might actually fix it!

You must own and Evo VIII!

OP, try replacing the plugs with new OEM ones. And yes, VIIIs and IXs use different plugs.

just try the plugs first... if that doesn't seem to fix it unless u think something is wrong with the coils a coil on pack wont fix it either, but the car will definitely run smoother.

anyone paying 65 bucks for plugs in our cars is getting taken to the cleaners... lol
and every 5k isn't necessary either... as stated above, replace plugs and go from there. be sure to gap them correctly too

Got my plugs at Advance Auto think it came up to like $50, did them at the recommended maintenance interval of 60k and the stock ones we're perfectly fine still.
To the OP though, what exact kind of tune we talking about here?
