Importing an Evo 5 to Canada

Importing an Evo 5 to Canada
Good day! I've decided that it has come time to sell my Celica All Trac and move to something a bit more worthy, especially since the Evo 5's will be available for import in January.
I'm looking for someone who has had experience with Evo 4's and 5's importing them into Canada. From what it looks like it will cost around 10-11k to import one. I'm guessing another 1k for meeting provincial standards and getting it safetied along with mounting heater pads for winter.
I'm worried about the availability of parts, especially since I plan to use this as a DD. Has anyone had experience with this?
Any other info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

i think the website is tyeeimports.com or something closer to that there are a few older evos and skylines imported from them to Canada. I'd personally get a 33gtr over and older evo though :P
if u look on craigslist.com around the canada area, u will find some freshly imported cars. good luck!

there are lots of JDM import car dealers in calgary/edmonton that will do all the importing work for you. just be careful there is a guy here with an Evo 4 who had a bad rear diff and now he cant find one to save his life.

I know of a good importing company, I'm just looking for someone who has personal experience on the site with importing Evo's.
I'd go with a 8 or 9 but it looks like I'd have to spend around 16-20k for a decent one which is out of my price range. Now it might be easier but chance are it won't be in as good condition as a jdm car, have higher miles and likely more rust, but that's a generalization.
Yes, one of my biggest concerns is parts for this car. Is it much easier to find parts for jdm subaru's? I know they're more popular in Canada but they still weren't manufactured here so I'm guessing parts would still be hard to find. I don't think finding parts for any R33 skyline would be an easy task either and I would guess that they'd be in the $15k above range.
I've thought of a newer Celica gt4 (st205 1994-1999) because their body style was build here in Canada but as an owner of a 1990 all trac st185 I find them complicated and difficult to work on. The engine bay's are packed.
I'm still open to opinions but I'd prefer and Evo.

Mornin' Ironchief,
lots of later evo parts can be used on the v,have a search for a thread called:"7,8,9 parts on early evo's"
I wrote it for a friend in Canada with an evo iv(CeeWizzle).
most mechanical parts are a straight swap, parts involving the different body shells don't work obviously.
driving an early evo is different to the later ones, they are not nice in traffic or on a long run but for a blast they are a little more hardcore than a 7,8,9
make sure you test drive one before making your mind up
hope this helps,
Mick.

Thanks for the info mic9ornothing. It'll be a little hard finding one to test drive since they're so rare here, in fact as far as the Evo1-6's are concerned, I've never seen any, not even one! Why aren't they nice in traffic?

mornin' Ironchief,
when i said not good in traffic i meant the usual old school performance car problems like heavy clutch(some are like an on/off switch and they only get heavier the more power you want),very little sound insulation(it weighs too much)and stiff suspension(you can tell when you run over a leaf).
all this adds up to a difficult car to drive in traffic, but if used for purpose(touching 130mph down your local country lane)these are the things that make the car come alive in your hands!!
Rest assured there is nothing in the same price range that will touch an evo for outright pace from a to b
The evo V is a good choice because it comes with very good brakes as standard(4 piston brembo calipers and 13" discs)and the engine is very tunable in standard form, stage one in england is considered to be:-
3" full exhaust system, performance air filter or induction kit,255lph walbro fuel pump, manual or elec. boost control and an ecu re-map.
this should see you at about 360-380hp at the flywheel which is about the limit for a safe std engine!
send CeeWizzle a pm and ask his views as he has just imported an evo iv like mine and he lives in your area(this is a massive estimation on my part, remember i live on a little island where you can drive pretty much anywhere in a day, also i can't even pronounce where you live never mind find out how big it is)
There is loads of info on the earlier evo's on www.lancerregister.com and we are a very friendly bunch, come along and say hello
hope this helps,
Mick.

Hahah ya it's a big place. That's some solid hp from some relatively inexpensive upgrades. I've heard that the Evo's are really easy to work on too. Haven't seen an older Evo engine bay but if anyone can confirm this that would be awesome.

Bro! I live in sask, regina to be specific. I own an Evo 4. Bought it straight from Japan. Hell of a car. Mick is right about it being lame in traffic. Definitely not a downtown car or heavy traffic use. However, as you know streets in Regina are the extreme ****s, so if you do buy a 4 or 5, be ready to have a sore *** at times. I quite enjoy my 4 though! Very fun car to drive and my buddy from work also just recently bought one! We both own White 4 GSR's and we literally only spent about $100 each to safety our cars. We bought from a very well trusted importer! Pm me if you have any questions or if you live in Regina give me a shout! (pm me first though! :P )
Both my friend and I are planning on buying and building Evo 8 engines and dropping them in. Mainly a top and fuel/air build though, not to sure about going all out on a 2.3 stroker *** end yet. But we definitely are looking for some guys to chill with that own evo's! Not too many evo 4's around. Only us both and 2 other guys who own another white gsr and a blue gsr! You may see them around a bit if you live in Regina.
