ticking/knocking noise
Ok so you guys are prolly getin tired of this same post. I have an 03 evo 8. Stock bottem end. And 280 cams. When i do a cold start there is no ticking. Once warmed up i get this ticking/knocking noise back by the injectors when at idle. Then reving it gets faster until the noise of the engine and exhaust drowns the noise. But when i let go of the throttle the sound then comes back. Idk if its my lifters or a bad injector. Any help would be appreciated. And maybe a place where i can get new lifters for a decent price.

If it's ticking, then you are fine. If you hear tick tick tick tick from the head of your engine, then it's most likely your lifter. Either bleed or replace it with no-tick lifters, you won't hear that noise. However, if it's lifter tick, it's okay to drive.

i agree with the guy above me.. i think u have a lifter issue.. how many miles on the car?? typically a hydraulic lifter works by pulling in oil as necessairy after a lifter install to automatically seal up the gaps between say the pushrod and rocker arms.. all that inside a v8 motor.. having not taken a evo lifter apart yet idk but im sure its all the same. knocking noise comes from a lifter that is starting to bleed off the pressure and creates a gap in whicn the lobe of the cam hits rather than slides onto. creating the knocking sound that you hear. sounds like your on the right track.. let ue know if you find it to be something else good luck

Thanks for all the input. The sound is temporarily gone. Which leads me to think that the lifter was clogged. But i will be pulling the valve cover to verify the problem. The engine has 280 cams which isweird bc the head doesnt have that many miles on it. I will still replace the lifters just to be safe considering its only a 200 dollar fix and a couple hours of my time. Ill keep updated.
