As to whether it would help with liability, the question would probably come down to what the standard of care for towing is, and whether or not the sticker would be deemed to have informed the driver (and by extension the towing company) on the proper method for towing EVOs.
The driver would of course say that he never saw any sticker.
If the tow company lawyers were aggressive and you did not have evidence, they might intimate that you either put the sticker on after the Tow of Pain, or that you took it off before the Tow of Pain.

That sticker is indeed a CYA, just in case there is a lawsuit and a friendly reminder to the driver also. Sure, right now I am aware the vehicle needs to be on a bed prior. In the heat of the moment, I would be more worried what the hell went wrong, how to fix it, and when I will be able to drive again.

Wow.. I remember a guy tried to tow my car with a regular tow truck. I told him that it MUST be towed by a flat bed because it is AWD.. He looks at me and says " I've never heard of that before. "
