Engine oil drain when removing valve cover?

Engine oil drain when removing valve cover?

Okay, I am trying to bleed my lifters due to tick noise.

This could be a stupid question, but I never removed a valve cover before.

Do I have to drain my engine oil before remove the valve cover?
and pour up new oil after install valve cover?

I'd appreciate any comments !

No.

You do not have to do anything with your oil when you remove your valve cover.

or since I'm not going to remove my cams, i don't need to check or align anything before remove valve cover?

If you wont remove cams - you don't have to align them

Thank you for helping this newbie out ! So then it's just simply remove a valve cover then bleed the lifters.

Remember the torque specs for the valve cover are in/lbs.... Seen to many guys cracking valve covers over something so stupid.. Not trying to be a dick, just trying to save you $$.

You will have to remove cams to get the lifters out. You have to get the cams out. then remove the rockers and then each individual lifter to bleed.

If you are just asking how to remove the valve cover, please have a mechanic do this procedure!!!. i would hate to see your next thread. i just bled my lifters and my car wont start.........

Removing cam is optional. I replied a link that how/ tool for that. And I read how to bleed lifter rmorr79. BEKevo, yes I always follow manual torque specs, but thanks for remind me. Mm I don't see why ppl comment so offensive here. 4RETECH why your car won't start ?

IMO the tool to remove the lifters, while the cam is still installed, is not worth the extra $$ and possible implications you may run into. Like dropping something where it wasnt suppose to go. Also removing the camshafts, in order to get to the lifters, is far easier than using the tool i think you're describing (ie take lifters out, while cams in..). You seem mechanically inclined, so it will be painless for you.

Money would be better spent on the actual timing belt removal tool, the long rod one that pushes down the timing belts' hydraulic tensioner. You can get one for 15 bucks off of jaysracing.com

Here's some additional info you may need;

Torque specs:
Cam caps/covers ~ 16ftlb.
CAS (cam angle sensor) ~ 17ftlb.
Cam gear bolts ~ 65ftlb.
Valve cover bolts ~ 89inchlbs.

As 4RETECH said, do the lifters one at a time, and put them back in their original positions ( i also put the rockers in the original positions). Also do one cam at a time, and lube the f*** out of the timing belt tool before using it.
