STM front crash bar

Anybody run this piece? If so, what are your thoughts/feedback on it?

I been looking at those pieces as well. They look really well made. I wish you could get the option of a welded tow hook or a welded threaded section for a removable tow hook though.

I installed both yesterday. The front fit great but the back is to short and one of the bolts dont line up. i cant drill the hole out more because the hole was drilled as is to close to the edge.

Since they are made in-house, I'm sure that with one phone call to STM, series parties could get the bars welded with provisions for tow hooks.

Installed a STM front bar. Light weight and sturdy. Quality piece.
But might need to remove two small pieces of styrofoam under the front bumper cover since the bar was rubbing them on mine. Not a big deal though.

It does look like a very nice part, I must say. A little pricy, but it would be worth it to me if I decide to pick it up.

i would be willing to bet the fitment issue is from chassis warpage/flex more than the product's fault.

I could be wrong in this case, but I went through the same thing on my GTI, an aftermarket crash bumper wouldn't fit because the frame rail was ever so slightly tweaked. had to flex the chassis a little to make it bolt up.

It says directly on the site that its not meant to withstand impact.

True, but I do suppose it's better than people running with no front crash beam at all. It's still not as safe as the OEM, but I guess you can get the best of both worlds with it. One system always affects another one. In this case, weight savings results in a less sturdy brace up front.

why do people always go on about safety with crash bars?

They don't do a damn thing to make the car any safer in a collision.

The only thing it does is minimize damage in a low speed impact. It will have ZERO real impact on stability, strength, or resilience in a wreck.

The reason there are aftermarket versions instead of people just ditching it all together to save weight is insurance claims. In the event you got rid of em (like doing a JDM rear) and your insurance claims guy happens to care or know enough to check for it, you could potentially be in some **** with getting coverage.

Not likely though, they usually don't give a ****. lol

^ it's for that exact reason - so insurance cant pull one on you and screw you over
