Can I import my 1999 Evo 6 to the USA?

Does anyone know how someone would go about importing an Evo 6 and if they are street legal with the required conversions?

I'm an American living in England and have acquired a Japanese imported 1999 Evo 6.. I'm moving to the States soon and I was wondering if it would be easier just to take it apart piece by piece and re-assemble it in the US and go from there with registering, etc..

What other modifications or conversions would have to be done for it to be street legal (minus state specific laws) or just track / show purpose only with the limited miles per year on it?

This is a great machine, and I don't want to part with it.

Any ideas?

Don't wanna let this beauty go!

You basically could import the EVO 6 to USA. You won't be able to drive it "legally" in the streets specially in California since it doesn't pass most of inspection. You can turn it into a track car that's what i did with my EK when i got it imported from Japan.

From what I've read on here your options are:

1. Call in as many favours as you can and import your evo as a track only car and trailer it everywhere. (See thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...my-tme-us.html)

2. Get a lot (A LOT - it was rumoured that Motorex spent $1 million for the R33 GTR) of cash and undergo the process to make the car street legal. This involves purchasing several (4? 5? maybe more?) models of the same vehicle to undergo crash testing and research the necessary modifications to meet US crash standards and emissions standards. (See (a really good regardless of what you do): http://skylinegt-r.wikidot.com/0-60mrex).

3. Wait until 2024 when your car will be deemed a collector and be able to be imported.

4. Change US vehicle import laws.

5. Break the car down into parts and ship to the USA. Purchase a same generation Mirage stateside and use the parts to modify the Mirage into an Evo 6 replica.

Good luck sir!

Thats a good looking car. good luck. From what ANDYCT9W posted it sounds like you have a battle ahead of you. If you do manage to import it please bring it to the shootout!

That's exactly what they did when they shipped my civic back in 06 they shipped it out as parts and then put it together here and gave it to me.

Was it the same car or did they use a USDM donor to put the parts on?
