belt chirping, gets worse

I have searched many many times trying to solve this. I have an Evo IX and when I bought it a couple months ago the AC compressor and serp belt had been replaced. It had a very slight belt chirp and I figured he used a crap belt so no big deal. Within a week this wuiet chirp turned into an annoying high pitched squeal.

I had a new belt put on and all was good for a few weeks and then one day I hear the chirp at idle. Over the next few weeks it gets worse and worse and back to full screaming.

New belt, tensioner, and idler pulley along with timing belt and other stuff I wanted done. Squeal/chirp is gone and I think im good to go.

This morning it started chirping again. So it only happens at idle and it gets progressively worse. Any ideas?

I think the compressor was replaced to get rid of this problem and when it came back he dumped it.

But I have a theory something is not turning free and its chewing the belt up so it could be the AC compressor or something else. Does this theory sound plausible?

One way to know is to check. If all is fine replace the belt again and the tensioner.

Also, there's some known issues with the Evo 9 timing belt that causes noise.

Yea I know about the timing belt noise. If that was my issue replacing the serp belt wouldn't make it go away.

I know replacing the belt gets rid of it for a little bit but replacing it every 2-3 weeks would be expensive and insane

Next time you have the belt off make sure all your pulleys spin freely would be my suggestion.

Freespin your pulleys to see, or use the screwdriver method or wd 40 on one pulley at a time until noise dissipates. .... Long screwdriver by each pulley with car running that screeching noise will resonante more into the screwdriver you just listen for it with your ear by the handle. But be careful...if not ac pulley, try new serp belt tens if not you could have possibly a bad idler pulley....good luck. Couple quick checks to see.

Dont use WD-40 on your pulleys or belts, it'll destroy them.. It's a penetrant, not a lubricant.

+1 Wd-40 will get into the grease used to lubricant the bearings, drying them out it will seem like you alleviated the problem for a day but the future consequences will be much worse.

Well the reason y I recommended it is that spraying a tiny amount on one at a time, you should be able to figure out which pulley within a couple of them. A tiny amount shouldnt hurt it....do what you will. Use belt dressing then. Just tryin to help.

I use to have the same problem. Mine turned out to be a loose crank pulley. The 4 bolts backed out. Get a 12mm socket and ratchet and see if the bolts that hold it on are loose.
Luckily I caught mine in time. Same thing happened to a local guy and it destroyed his bearings. I had to replace my crank sprocket and pulley. I also did the timing belt while i was in there. Good luck.
