Good thread, these motors are incedibly strong, can beat on them all day, tuning is the key, and when failure does happen motors are blamed. A dead stock evo will boost for ever

As long as your doing the regular oil change I dont think there certain brands of oil will cause a catastrophic failure on these motors.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry if that came off sounding as I had claimed it as a cause, I also propose it as a question. I know there's quite a bit of hate directed towards M1 on these boards, so I phrased the question as such.

The big thing s with oil, M1 is not the best oil out there, as some people think. It is what is prefered on the oil cap maybe yes, from the factory on a stock motor on a stock evo not ever revving past 7k, that is not a problem.

However, You put am aftermarket turbo on there with specific oiling needs and rev past 7k on these motors and the oil pump starves the motor hardcore with that viscosity oil. Also mobil1 is so dilluted with detergents to remain a "universal preferred oil" (which is good to keep an engine clean but bad for lubrication) for all these new cars and regulations, and on a race motor application or even a weekend warrior CAN be catostophic. Mobil1 isnt the worst oil u can run, but it isnt anywhere near the best either.

The reason Mobil 1 is recommended is because Mobil 1 has a contract with mitsubishi lol It has nothing to do with the quality of the oil.

I bought mine with 15k. Car was in the hands of a young teenager. Did 360 On the fwy mangeled suspension. I never hesitated to do water pump timing belt tensioner and seals just to be safe. Now at 49k mile im planing to repeat again love to make sure my car is perfect the only thing i never did is head gasket but this time I will. Trans rebuild as well on 16K. Car will be repeated in service except trans and tcase are wonderful. My evo and others are built to with take massive power if done properly. Very true that most evo's out thier have motor replacements. I just had tcase do young owner.

I never claimed that, I was asking IF choice / grade of engine oil CAN play a role in failures.

There are plenty of users here that claim certain oils/brands/grades are akin to a death sentence for these engines.

^ There's an interesting example.
