FP Black with Stock 8 turbo with 10.5 Turbine Housing?
Hey guys, looking to get a fp black installed on my evo 8 with stock 10.5 hotside turbo, is it true that you have to purchase a 9 turbine housing even though both are 10.5 hotsides? and i have a couple options if my turbine housing doesnt work, either buy a 9 housing from mitsu or a buddy or a guy i know is selling his buchur he used with his fp black for 60. what do you guys think?

Your question is a bit confusing.. Are you asking regarding what year core you can use? '03-'04 TD05HR-16G6-9.8T turbine hotsides were 9.8 (03-04 turbo's not accepted as FP Black core's), '05 TD05HR-16G6-10.5T turbo's had a 10.5 housing, the rest of the turbo was the same as 03-04 ('05 turbo's also not accepted for upgrading).
'06 TD05HR-16G6C-10.5T turbo's from an Evo 9 is the only accepted turbo for upgrading to an FP Black.
Now, the 10.5 turbine housing on the '05 appears to have had two versions: a twin flapper wastegate on the earlier models, & changed to a single flapper later in the year (from what I've seen). Are you asking if FP will accept this earlier twin flapper 10.5 turbine housing for use on an FP Black? Aside from the flapper itself, nothing else was different about the housing than the single flapper version. But if you're asking if FP can use the '05 turbo that still had the 10.5 housing....the answer to that is...no.
If you're trying to use a 9.8 housing on the Black, I don't see why they couldn't machine the housing to fit the upgraded turbine wheel of the Black..? Stock turbine wheels on Evo 8 & 9's were the same size. A Black would technically spool quicker with a smaller hotside, but it would cost you in higher RPM range by becoming a choke point, & that may be why FP is telling you no to anything but an Evo 9 10.5 housing...
