Evo VIII vs new STI models

So how does our old 8 compare to the 08+ STI(hatch or sedan)? Stock trim/mod for mod/ around a track/ drag strip/ handling. Lets be non biased here. Got a friend with a newer sedan model claiming there faster, handle better, and take mods better than the 8.

why not both go to the track?

Evo's have always handled mods better, STI's have always been more comfortable to drive on a regular basis.

Stock-for-stock they're going to be pretty much identical. People always get their panties in a bunch over which car is better, etc., etc, and they're comparing fractions of a percent difference.

Easiest way: go to the track and see

In all honesty, I wouldn't race him even if he taunted it. I don't condone street racing. Just asking about how they stack up.

Most STi owners claim that STis are faster, handle better and are easier to mod and get better gains from them. Most evo owners say the same thing about evos. Sooooooo

Talking about it gets nowhere and is boring. Hit the track to find out.

I don't want to stifle discussion, so please have at it.

I think at the end of the day it's silly to bench race, when people could be out on the track flogging their cars to see what they're truly capable of.

Just my opinion though!

I'm talking on a review basis. I personally don't care which is better, I love both, just curiosity speaking here.

This. Particularly the bold. The mod part is a non starter for this conversation. The 8 vs a new STi is probably still advantage 8 driver for driver but that is usually the issue. Put both of those cars on the track and the better driver is always going to win. So you'll always hear "oh i blew away x in car z so car y is better" was it better because the car was better or was it better because you were the better driver?

This.

I know that had I been in the market for just a daily commuter I would have chosen the sti.

From past experience, I have always seemed to be .3 to .5 seconds faster on a 60 sec autox course vs a comparably modded sti with comparably equal driver skills and class. This is regardless of whether its a pcaa style course that's REALLY tight, or a faster layout. That's not bashing, just what I seemed to have noticed in my experience.

The nut behind the wheel is what makes the difference. It's how you drive it and feel about it. Any car can be modified.

Ok I'm just going to be blunt! STi's are time bombs Since 2007+. Subaru needs to bring the jdm 2.0 motor for me to even consider owning one ever again. They sound pretty good and the 6 speed trans is great but that is all IMO.

Coming from experience my friend has a 2012 STI he has TBE, Intake, Upgraded Top Mount and i have basically the same mods... we are both tuned by CBRD.. and i made 50awhp more then him.. (would have been more but my stock fuel system is maxed out) anyways.. we both have Coilovers and we both have dunlop direzza tires.. I $hit on him in all aspects.. maybe i just push my car harder then him through the corners but he cant keep up at all.. and in a straight away from a 30-120 pull i put about 5 car lengths on him..

STI's are twice the price to do anything. As for the cars they are both about the same. If you put good parts in both cars they can do amazing things. Stock for Stock == Same, Evos make more HP per dollar than STI's. Parts are much cheaper on the Evo. If you want to make big power on an STI you must sleve the motor.

I think the evo is much better for 1/4mile/roll racing, parts to make power are cheaper.

Sleved awesome motor STI == 12k+
Evo Bushur 2.3RPM == 6k

Here is a pic of my garage. Evo 8 RS, 06 STI
