Power steering whine/heavy steering

Hi all,

after some help/advice.
basically i fitted an aftermarket power steering tank and pipes, thought id bled the system but when i turned the wheel and the pump whined loudly.

i have now put the original back on turned it lock to lock a couple times and it was quiet.

now tho when the system is cold its fine, as soon as it heats up the pump whines and steering is very heavy when turning the wheel when stationary.

any advice? i have some people saying its not bled, and a tuner saying its the pump thats faulty.

why would it be fine cold but not when hot?

help please

if its not bled it will be hard and pulsate kinda, The whine could be a bad pump. Does it whine at higher RPM? Yes it could be a bad Pump, Id top it off all the way, turn the wheel both ways totally 3 times at 2k RPM then see what it does.

the car is an 07 evo 9 with 6k on the clock, and it only start when i changed the pot.

doesnt whine at all when not moving the steering, only when turning the wheel at idle, if i give it revs the steering is normal and no whine,

air in the system/incorrect fluid/Low idle/restriction in the lines or dirty fluid/Faulty pump
Is the Resivoir Aftermarket? does it hold enough fluid and is the feed on correctly?
Thats where i would start.

i have put the original pot and pipes on, i completely drained the system (banjo off the rack etc, and refilled with new oil)

level on the pot is high if anything.....

Did you have the wheels off the ground, when you bleed it? go back and forth both ways 3 times one after another?

No leaks correct?

Do you have proper tenstion on the belt?

Seems like a belt tenstion issue then, it works crrectly at higher Rpm, it whines at lower rpm,
Id check that belt for sure.

that wouldnt explain why it work when cold and also why i have no power steering when at idle revs

what type of fluid did you use? What is your idle? If the belt is slipping at idle it will whine and squeal and not work. Why it works when cold seems like a fluid issue.
I dont use Power steering Fluid or ATF, I use a AW32 non Detergent.

IVE used an "own brand" but its the dexron III. the whine only happens when i turn the wheel, at all other times its silent

right, when cold it turns freely and silently.

when hot, its v heavy to turn and noisy and noisy at lock.

if i rev it the pitch increases with the revs.
