$850 to install Boost, A/F, Oil Temp Gauges in an MR?

Have I just been out of the game for a while or does this sound really high? The shop wants to bill 6.5 hours to put three gauges in for me. The car previously had a A/F Uego on it, so I see no reason the O2 bung wouldn't still be there, and the MRs have most of what you need for oil temp and boost already behind the dash. I realize it's not direct plug and play, but is this what I should expect to have three gauges installed?

Thanks.

That's way too much. You can do it yourself, you have the bung for the O2 sensor and just buy the adapter for the oil temp. I'm sure you can find a how to on all of them.

That's what I was thinking. I have no problem paying someone for convenience, especially now that I live in San Francisco, so I don't really have a garage to work in anymore, but I'd rather drive down to my parents' for the weekend and knock this out. I like to think I am at least minimally competent, and could do this in a weekend if I took my time.

Holy Crap!!! You can get your car tuned twice for that money!! Like someone mentioned above, you can find a "how to" for just about anything all over this site. Save the cash and do it yourself!

Can you say which shop?

Either way, you can do it yourself with mostly basic hand tools and some time. So you have to decide how much your time is worth.

I'm local, so hit me up if you have any questions as I've already installed my own wideband and boost gauges. I also have a strategy for installing my oil pressure, temp and an EGT gauge.

Sounds like the shop doesn't want to do the work so they way overbid the job. Pretty common see it all the time.

Yes, $850 is a damn rip off for install of those 3 gauges.

As others said DIY, you'll know the work was done right and learn something along the way.

I'd prefer not to call anyone out on the forum, and I am happy with the tune they did on the car for the previous owner, and might return for a re-tune one day. That being said, they are entitled to quote what they want, and I am entitled to think it is ridiculous. Part quotes included $30-70 markups on gauges too. Realistically, I think the other member below is correct. They just didn't want to work, and that's fine. It's been a while since I paid anyone to work on my cars (haven't had one for about 4 years since I moved up here for grad school), so I just wanted to make sure I was/wasn't getting ripped.

I'll likely do this myself, or pay a fellow local member some cash and a case of beer to help me knock this out one weekend. Thanks for all the info guys.

Three gauges (AEM digital boost, A/F Uego, Oil Temp) was an extra $606. Hence the roughly $30-70 markup on each gauge. I told them I'd love to give them the business, and I even understand a little retail markup because shops have different overhead than Internet vendors, but I respectfully declined to pay them this kind of markup or labor.

So total was $1425ish for three gauge purchase and install. In my mind, before I requested the quote, I was estimating about half that. Thus, the surprise and post on here when I received the quote.

To do it right, the time isn't that far off, but at $125/HR is to much labor cost. This is a easy do it yourself project, with will all the info. you'll need on many sites.
