euro evo gauge cluster issue

I bought a pretty BA cluster off of eBay from Europe. Threw it in my usdm '06 IX and it looks sweet but about 2/3 of the way around the speedometer it stops (at 180 btw) and it says ralliart there. Only issue is my Mph reading is all off now. Like it says I'm doing 140mph when I'm going 80mph. Anyone know how to fix this issue plz? Thanks!!

Learn to do Mile-to-KiloMeter conversion in your head.
Have you pics of this gauge/overlay?

His problem is that I presume he has an FQ gauge cluster. They're super rare, and the scaled graduations are actually changed.

If I assume RalliArt were logical about it, there has to be a piece of modified coding in the ECU they're using that would handle this, but I'm honestly not that familiar with it since they're largely unattainable (parts wise) for us in the states.

I'd really like to see a pic of this cluster though... you might find better assistance on Mitsubishi Lancer Register honestly...

But I'd be very interested to hear what you've got, or what you find out.

Maybe a dumb questions, but facts line up. Are you sure its not in KPH? 140 KM is ~ 85 mph.

It's hard to find photos of this cluster... but presumably, it's the cluster that you can kind of see in these photos.

That's exactly how my new cluster looks in that picture. I bought it from Lithuania and it came out of a rally car. Only 18k on the dial too

It's main format is actually MPH with kilo's still being the smaller numbers so Its not a matter of kilo to mph. It's a matter of getting the car to understand my speed stops 2/3 way around now. And just added an extra 20mph to the total max out also.

Might be a different speed sensor...did the FQ come with a different tranny?

I dont know how the evo works at this point, but back in the day--the speedo was gear driven and had a cable that plugged into the trans with a small gear--changing that gear changed the MPH and was adj for the rear end ratio you had.. Not saying this is true for the evo, but worth a look.

I believe the EVO uses the speed sensors in the hubs (the same ones the abs uses) to electronically measure the speed of the vehicle via the ecu. What's interesting is if I imagine my old cluster its registering where it would have for the mph's in the sane spot but now its just not lining up with the new speedo. I thought someone might know how to fix this using evoscan or a flash program for the ecu. That's what I was really looking for. I have some great pics of the new cluster but I'm stuck at work right now. Will post pics up when I get home from work tonight. I'm on my cell right now and evom won't let me post live via my cellphone.

Here's a link to someone who changed his tire size and wanted to correct the difference in the speedo reading. Similar to my issue but according to this thread there is a speed gear. Unless someone can give me some code to flash looks like I'm ordering a FQ speed sensor gear from Europe. Haha

I believe you're correct, but the speed signal wire comes from the ECU. Anyone who runs a greddy setup knows this because they always ask what color it is.

Road Race Engineering used to have an ECU pinout diagram on their site... so check there.

BUT, the issue isn't that you aren't receiving the signal, the issue is the calibration. I'm not as well versed in the open source Evo software as I'd like, so I can't tell you if it can be corrected in there, but I CAN tell you that the FQ vehicles (which is what this is off of, "rally car" or not) used a remapped ECU by RalliArt. Their tech is no different than ours, they just happened to know where to look.

Presumably you only wanted this cluster for style? I'm going to tell you right now that it's going to be more trouble than it's worth

I doubt very much that the FQ's used a different gear. There's no way that would've been cost effective. There's something in the ECU that can alter this. It's just a value assigned to a ratio. Some of the ECU guys have to know... maybe try asking Tephra?

Mark and Machek over at APM in Elmhurst, IL are figuring it out. I found them the Rom for the FQ-360 and they are dissecting it and will correct my dash for $100. Can't beat it. The guy in lithuania wanted $300 for the dash and I offered him $150 and he took it. Then $100 to program it and I have close to a one of a kind dash cluster in the USA for $250. Btw they also custom tuned my ix yesterday for me and WOW. It's a new car, unbelievable for what I've put into the car to get 25lbs of boost and get that kind of pull. Super props to those guys. Doing 80mph on the highway In 5th and still get whiplash when you punch it Is awesome. I guess you dont realise how much you need to tune these cars after mods until you actually have it done!!!
