Evo starts 1/4 of the time, starter clicks when it doesn't

I knew about this little issue before buying the car. I bought it with 37k on it back in December. Had the problem then and still has it. Just been putting it off but its been acting really bad lately and I just want to fix it.

These are the symptoms. Sometimes the car will start up with absolutely no problem whatsoever. Other times it will be an absolute PITA. All it will do when it doesn't start is just click the starter a bunch of times and then finally start.

Also I've found a sure way to start it every time. My parking spot happens to been on a slight incline. If I push the clutch in put it in first, let the car roll forward, and then release the clutch while turning the key it starts.

Since it starts sometimes no problem I would think its not a battery issue. Also when the car is on the battery gauge is at 14. So maybe a bad connection? All the battery connections are on nice and tight.

Leaves me with the starter. I took it off about a month ago to install the LICP. When I put it back on a made sure all the wire were secure. So maybe its just the starter itself thats bad?

Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated thanks!

EDIT: Stuff I've tried so far
Replacement starter - still doesn't start some times.

You need a starter, roll starting only makes your situation worse.

Stop roll starting it.

2-3? It's been doing it for like 6 months at least 2-4 times a day but I'll try a new one.

Most likely the starter what I do is if I try to start it and nothing, I then tap the starter with a wrench, try to start it again and if it kicks over it's the starter. Checked my previous cars this way when not having other resources.

Mine does something similar when trying to start - I turn the key, the light will all go on but it doesn't turn over. If I turn the key back and forth again it will start. Takes 2-3 times each time I try and start the car. I had the starter replaced but it didn't fix it. Any other ideas?

Before you buy a new starter, check the simple things like the connections at the starter. I have seen on way to many Evo's the smaller connection to the starter solenoid very loose. You might just need to re-do/fix that connection. Symptoms are identical to yours if that connector isn't making a good contact.

Only thing I have is a turbo timer and a security system. Think it's a the viper but it doesn't have the remote start.

Try the battery!!! The same EXACT thing happened to me. I can still read correct voltage but not have the cranking power. Go to Costco, buy a battery and return it if it doesn't solve the issue.
