traction with high hp evo's.

My build is comming along well, but with a realistic goal of 550 awhp, I am thinking that I will have some traction problems. Can anyone chime in on some tips to improve traction on the street? I am running evo x bbs's with stock tires which I am positive will be inadequate.

Are you talking about launching it or what? With 550 whp you may spin a little in first but after that you should be able to hook it up in dry conditions. I can spin the tires at 40 in the wet though.

Yes, wheel spin at launch or if I drop a gear. Ideally, I want to push the gas and go, not spin. So, would a wider wheel/tire and sticky rubber do the trick?

Problem with traction & high power is drive line components breaking, spinning your tires may save you some money

Sticky, wide tire are your friend. RS3's, star specs, etc.

In dry conditions with any high performance summer tire you should be fine. Slightly wider would be better (275's would be nice if you can fit them). Its not going to be remotely comparable to a rwd/fwd car of the same power level if that is what you are worried about.

If you are going to be launching the car a lot, be prepared for the associated costs - i.e. massive reduction in drivetrain service life.

It has to do a lot with suspension, tire pressure and setup more then anything for drag. Main thing is make sure you have proper tire pressure that will help a lot.

none of those tires will really help with day to day traction or drag if thats what hes intrested in a softer side wall (wider) tire would help tho i have nt05 i run around on daily i am more scared of launching on those things then with my all seasons

When my car made just over 500 it was fine with Star Specs and RE-11s.

Rain or sand on the road and it will get out of shape if you rip on it in 1st/2nd.

Now that my car makes ~900 though, it's a different story.

You should be able to keep grip but it's always a fun to get a little squirrly in an awd car.

What is the process of building your suspension the correct way?
lets say its a average daily driver looking for better grip on the road aswell as drag racing and a bit of autocross?

Cheers

You would be surprised how well you'll still be able to hook. Just get some wider tires. I'm just shy of 500whp on 255s and its perfect. I prefer my 245 set because a little spin for daily driving is good. Its not like a rwd at all though...even if I'm spinning, they still grab super quick.
