What kind of power will you see from e98 over e85?

Thinking about using e98 on my new setup, i can order 55gal drums from MAP. So if the power gains are justifiable, i have no problem spending the extra dough

 

Let me add, that with either fuel, i will have to store it in a drum because there arent many e85 stations around.

I dont daily drive the car, so availability isnt really an issue

 

Where are you located? Here I thought driving 5 miles farther to an e85 station was inconvenient.

E98 is somewhere around 110 octane (r+m)/2. e85 is anywhere from 98-105 depending on the batch/source. Drum sourced E98 is going to be much more consistent and maybe worth it for race only. I heard it's close to $2/gal by the drum from VP

 

After shipping, its gonna be about $500 a drum. Which is about 10/gal. Shipping is almost as much as 55gal of fuel. If only i can find a way to get around shipping

 

Just know that you will need more fuel on a e98 setup then e85. So make sure you have big enough injectors and enough fuel supply

 

That's not worth it at all imo

 

I think it's worth it for a high HP weekend toy.

My car runs E98 now, I go to/plan on events around the US and would rather bring consistent fuel in a drum with me than go with whatever blend I get from a pump.

 

Ethanol goes bad fast, in order to have it by the barrel you need to go through it fast and have a safe spot to put it and keep it 100% air tight. It's not as simple as ordering your fuel for the next few months.

 

Ethanol does not go bad fast. It will absorb water if left in the open air, but you can store it for quite sometime before it absorbs enough water to make it "bad"

I would use 5gal cans of methanol, and it would take me about 7-12 months to go through an entire can. Never went bad

 

Any 55 gallon drum you buy will have vapor tight seals on the plugs.

 

I have my first 55 gal drum bought from MAP. I live in VA/MD and MAP is in MN. I paid 225 for the E98 and I paid 240 for shipping which took around a week or so.

I don't drive the car much as I have a Ducati 1098 as my DD so I can go fast all the time I suppose but if I want to go really fast I break out the Evo. It's worth it for the extra power in my opinion.

 

I'm just going by what my buddy said that works for sunoco in ethanol development, shipment and storage. But hey, what would he know it's only his life and career, not mine

 

Well im going from personal experience, so i guess im living a lie.

I know a handful of people who also store e85 for long periods of time and have no issues with it at all. Ethanol only goes bad when left in open air

Apperently your "friend" isnt very good at his job

 

Pfft, 5 miles is nothing. I had to drive 30 miles to the nearest E85 station, then 30 miles back home, so 60 miles round trip to fill up.

Straight from sunoco. Shelf life is EXCESS of one year.... Thats not what i would call a fuel that goes bad quick..... But what do i know, im just a guy who knows how to read
