Old Post but it caught me out so thought i would add a few pics.

Turns out the screws holding the aluminium foot rest on are no just for show!

You need to remove all the screw first to remove the aluminium cover. then you can get access to the plastic cap. Pop this off and undo the nut underneath. With the nut off you can just pull the foot rest to remove the plastic clip at the top.

By the way this is for RHD car. Im sure LHD is very similar.

Hope this helps someone out.

I know this is a old post... But I'm struggling to get this off also in a RHD car. I've removed the bolt but that top screw/clip won't budge.
Did you have to do anything to the top clip?

If all the fasteners are out, stick a pry bar behind it and force it in different directions. Hopefully it's not molded with the carpet.
