To request the NHTSA to do a crash test on the EVO, I would suggest emailng them (I did)... their address crash.test@nhtsa.dot.gov

Give me a break. I don't think that noticing that there is a 21-25% chance of a life-threatening injury means you are a cat in heat.
My guess is you've never been in a serious accident, I have. I had a gas truck merge into me on the highway, pushing the volvo into the center ditch. It rolled three times, up the embankment, and then back down into the ditch. The side of the car where my mother was riding was crushed in up to the impact cage (passenger). The roof was completely fine, except for the a pillars which had been crushed a bit. I was able to open the door upside down and get out. My mother had to kick the window out (the film on it held). We were both completely fine...not even a bruise.
Now consider that accident in the Evo. Things are definetly a lot worse.
Frankly, now that I've seen the 05 Legacy GT, I may be sold. It's a nice bonus to me that it's a full five star vehicle, but it's not the only thing. I also like that it can be modded easily to my hp goal of 450 without too much fuss. In fact, it's more important to me right now. In four years, who knows. I do know I'd rather be in that than an Impreza OR an Evo if I t-boned it in my 91 Trooper.
I love to go fast as much as anyone, I also like to do it again next week And if it just so happens that one day I get too hot footed for my own ego, I'd like to think I made a smart choice up front on something that can protect me from myself. You don't put all your eggs in one basket, in my book, because you never know who's going to come take a dump in it.

NHTSA response to my email:
According to Mitsubishi, the Lancer Evolution affords the identical protection in the side configuration as the regular Lancer, as you will see from the identical website ratings. On the other hand, the frontal performance will be different, as you can also see from the website as the Evolution is not rated in the frontal configuration.
We test vehicles primarily based on sales volume and will not be testing the Evolution this year. We have limited funding from Congress and can only test a limited number of vehicles.
Thank you for your inquiry.

I cant believe some of these replys I am seeing. If you like the Evo better, then that is a good answer. But that is crazy to say it is unimportant, more like not important to yourself. Whats with the fanboy mentality here. You are telling me that is it ok to get in a wreck and have your (or passengers)hurt, limp for the rest of your life, be deformed, Spend your older years aching when the weather is cold, becuase scientific testing is unimportant? The fact is the thread asked if it was dangerous, and the fact is its not the safest. So why the lame replys? To answer the post yes it is important that the rating is slow esp if you have family as you mentioned. For the record I have done several HPDE on Motorcycle and Car, as well as Own a Volvo. After a mitsubishi hit my wifes S40 I specifically bought to commute my son by running a red light at 60mph. Pics are here.

Under S40 accident.
The lady who struck me spun me twice and I was able to get out under my own power. The other lady was not as fortunate. The civic sized volvo was replaced with a larger Volvo.
So Basically, yes it is important. Whats more important is what YOUR priorities are.

Uh, actually, the Impreza is one of the safest cars they tested while the Lancer is one of the worst. The Outback wagon is the _safest_ heavy vehicle they have, outpacing the 7-series, S-class and the Volvos. 5 stars, every category.
The 3-series is also very poorly rated in side impact collisions, but not as poor as the Evo. It's close, though .
As I said, I am not concerned about sliding off the road into a tree, that I can generally control, but I am certainly concerned with some dingus soccer mom raming into the side of my car with her 5000 lb SUV. If that happens, I'd like to at least maximize my chance to avoid serious pelvic injury. Just because some people spot welded the chassis for rigidity DOES NOT mean that it is more resistant to anything in a crash. That is defined by the material and the structure of...the sides, primarily Have you ever seen the side impact beams in an Impreza? I'd like to know what they look like in the EVO.

The "lame posters" are trying to say all new cars are safer than a few years ago. Is there a difference between manufacturers? I'm sure there is. Is it worth not buying an EVO? I don't believe so.
