Factory temperature/electrical? issue.
Crew...
So just finished doing the clutch on my car, and while I was in there did the manifold (exhaust) and O2 housing. I also added a cam position sensor heat shield. The radiator was also out, so a coolant change happened.
So, the car has been driving fine all weekend (about 150 miles) and today, I'm driving in to work in the rain, and while cruising on the highway, my temp gauge shoots up. I dial the heat up all the way, and pull off.
Pop the hood, and the motor doesn't feel hot, radiator isn't making a fuss, and the overflow tank is just fine.
I do however notice, that the ground wire that comes out of the loom for the cam position sensor, is smoking it's sheathing.
So 2 questions...
1. Does anyone know what may have caused that wire to get that hot?
2. The service manual is showing in section 11A-16/17 that the coolant gauge, and temp sensor are on that loom? But I feel like a ground heating up is more than just a unit failing...

Alright... the more I'm digging through the service manual, this appears to be a bad ground more than anything.
If anyone has any thoughts, I'd welcome them, as all I can think of, is that my cam angle heat shield maybe found a tiny crack in the wiring and shorted it?
Ugh. I flipping hate motherflipping electrics!

Ripped open the wiring sheathing, and it's melted. I'm guessing this is what caused the temp gauge issue.
However... what I'd still really love...
1. Does anyone know a part number for just this harness? It looks like it would be the ground for the coolant gauge, and the cam angle sensor wires are all melted up as well. No idea if that's what caused the problem as the car runs and starts just fine...
2. Ugh... don't even know. Give me something guys...

Do you think there is a way to just remove the bad part of the wire and solder and heat shrink a new piece on? I know a lot of guys that do wire tucks do a ton of re wiring for sensors. Hopefully you can get it fixed fast and cheap!
