Exclamation *** Watch out for fake Walbro 255's ***

This is just a general warning for all Evo owners: check your source that you're getting your Walbro 255's from VERY carefully.

I have a genuine 255 Wally in my car, but decided to put a fresh modded one in just in case, because my genuine one isn't flowing enough.

I hit up MVPMotorsports via Amazon, found a Wally 255 for $73. Awesome. They ended up accidentally shipping me two for the price of one. Whoops?

Anyways, so I punched the relief valve and put it in my car. Here are the results:

Genuine Walbro 255 on current tune: AFR @ 7000 RPM = 11.0
Fake Walbro from MVPMotorsports on current tune: AFR @ 7000 RPM = 14.1

Yeah, that's NOT good. So just a warning for those of you that look for 'good deals' on stuff like this... don't go for a good deal, go for a GUARANTEED genuine Wally 255.

Maybe that's why they sent you two?

How do you know you have a fake?

Tell me how to tell and I'll go look at mine.

DisgustipatedM3 how did you narrow it down to the pump ? i believe i am having the same issue with my fuel system ive checked this stuff so far

(fpr) holds pressure with the car off
sits at 50 psi with the car running no vac source to it

(injectors) fic2150 are not leaking

(fuel lab inline fuel filter) clean

(fuel pumps) socks clean and clamps are tight
dual walbro 255

(fuel pump wiring)
replaced both relays (its a full blown double pumper wired so both pumps are always on)

the hole fuel system has about 10k on it only seeing 93 so i am assuming the pumps are bad but dident wanna spend another $200 if i dident have to thanks for posting this up so we know now.

There's a video on youtube that tells you how to know if you have a fake walbro, it's based on the sound it makes while pumping basically

Also, it would be nice if people start posting vendors that sell the REAL walbro, I'm in the market for one right now and don't know where to get it from.

Thanks for that link, I just did some searching on google and found that lots of people have been rooked.

EDIT: I'm also going to retitle this and sticky it to help raise awareness so other people don't get screwed.

Ill have to be on the look out for these "fake" wallys

Any distributor in the US that gets caught selling these counterfeit fuel pumps, should be punished by death ! lol jk...

I contacted MVPMotorsports and here was their reply:

Hello, We do not sell fake Walbro pumps and purchase directly from them. What makes you think this is a fake pump? Feel free to call me 940-683-8282 -John
I am going to give them a call tomorrow and give them a chance to explain it. I really don't think the pump is genuine, not considering how lean it ran when I put it in and did a WOT run. And it's modded too, which gives it even MORE flow.

have you considered that maybe the walboro fuel pump you got had a problem from the factory and is not a fake?

How was it modded? Who modded it, and can you guarantee they didn't mess it up somehow?

Modded Walbro 255's have the relief valve punched in on the top. They flow much more at high pressure instead of the relief valve cracking open and bleeding off excess pressure.
