Arrow Refinishing carbon fiber wing.

I was going to get some opinions on how to refinish my severly weather beaten wing, but it seems that I can buy new ones off ebay for cheap.

Is it worth repairing? Is this a D.I.Y. project?

you can refinish it with less than $40 in materials.

Personally, if it's your OEM wing, and the side paint is good, I would take it apart, then sand down the carbon fiber, and re-clear it with a quality 2K clear.

If you have access to a compressor and paint gun, you can re-clear this with less than $20 materials. If you don't have access to a paint gun, use a 2K clear in a rattle can. (NOT some clear you buy at walmart/autozone/(insert auto parts store name here).

You need to re-clear it with a CATALYZED clear, or it will just look like ***, and fade in zero time.

I would rather have my oem part than cheap ebay part. I sanded the clear off mine by hand andidnt take it apart. Took to bodyshop to get it cleared. Had about 60 in whole process. Worth the effort in my opinion. Gl

Thanks for the info. About sanding - Do I just need to use regular sandpaper? 100 grit then smoother? Or, do it need to be wet sanded? I do have a compressor and gun, so respraying it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks, Mike

First-- is that carbon fiber cloth really rt there? As in No clear coat and little if any resin? And No 100 grit will eat through that in a heart beat-- I would start at 220 and see how quickly it sands and move to higher grit rapidly-- your not trying to remove what you have but smooth out whats there--its going to take some elbow grease, afraid if you start out with too harsh a grit you will end up cutting through the resin and have a real problem on your hands. Wet sand is the ticket. Then do as directed to clear it. BTW how did you let the wing get this bad to begin with? GL

Evo 8s have a known problem with the rear wing. Mitsu replaced many/most of them under warranty because of clear coat failure.

Unfortunately, they replaced them with an "upgraded" Evo 9 wing... which, while has a much better clear coat on it and doesn't fade, is a crappier wing.
