Assembling turbo help
Alright so recently I removed the hotside from my turbo to send out and now I am here putting it back together scratching my head. I see the set pin and the hole but just by hand pressing the two sides back together I cannot guarantee it's lined up. It is just sitting above and could be slightly off.
I threw the clamp back on hoping to pull it together so I could remove it and make sure it was lined up but it still looked to be above the pin. Also sounded like something was loose or making contact. How can I be sure I have it lined up? Is it ok to go by my guess and give it a whack with the mallet or what should I do?
Also does anyone have a spare cotter pin for the WG arm laying around? I can't seem to find mine or any for sale. Always the small things to set you back huh?

I set the two pieces together and gave it a few hits with a rubber mallet and it went together well. For the cotter pin you should be able to find a similar one at an auto parts store or even lowes or home depot

I'm just going to steal the one off my other turbo at the time of the swap. I forgot about that option.

Too much shaft play? You can hear contact so that is obviously too much correct right? I can only imagine what would happen once that thing got spinning and made contact.
Should I sent it in for a rebuild and who do you guys recommend for stock MHI rebuilds?

Journal bearing turbo's are quite simple to rebuild. You could probably order the kit and do it yourself, just take it apart and put back together in the opposite order. Be sure to mark the compressor nut and shaft where they are lined up before loosing so that it remains in balance when you put it back together.

Depending on the turbo you have you can either get rebuild kits from the supplier or some good ones on eBay if you look around.
There is a video of a guy rebuilding a 16g turbo on YouTube. I don't have the link but if you search turbo rebuild it will pop up.
