Lets figure it out!

Okay so i bought my evo viii last week. he told me some of the mods that have been done but as expected he didnt tell me all of them. SO, with that being said i took some pics of aftermarket looking stuff and i would like to find out brand if unknown and if they are any good because iv never heard of some of them haha.

first lucky mod is the unknown BOV

2nd we have a Spectre Intake

3rd is our Greddy upper intercooler pipe, this i know yeilds almsot no gain and probably only there for his BOV

Now is the fun part, what and why has this been done!?!?!

this is the possible aftermarket downpipe

this is the downpipe to o2 housing connection, i believe it is aftermarket due to the fact that it has some weird spring for the bolt (unless that is stock, i dont know)

this is the connection from the downpipe to the test pipe and possibly some kind of aftermarket blue bars?

this is the test pipe

here we have the connection from the test pipe to im assuming the stock catback because it shrinks in size

now here after the 2nd o2 sensor this is some larger pipe welded in...no idea why but its there

here is the back end of the 1st section of the cat back also the end of the larger pipe

now here is the muffler, looks like possibly he cut off stock one then welded in this weird unknown brand of muffler

muffler name (Medalion)

sooo with all that being shown, anyone know the brands of the exhaust parts or the bov, also if ANY of these mods are useful. i know the test pipe, and downpipe would be if they were aftermarket but idk the brand......anyways thanks for your input in advance

thats a greddy type rs bov. it could be an ebay knock off. search to find out.
those are SPRING BOLTS. it gives the exhaust a bit of slack since theres no flex pipe. reduces damage to the o2 housing/ turbo/ manifold.
the blue bar looks like a cusco H brace. or could be a no name. doesnt matter.
the exhaust is a tanabe medallion concept G, or maybe just the muffler. that welded section "appears" to be where a resonator used to be and he just straight piped it. dont know.
a lot of catback exhaust systems neck down to the stock cat.
the spectre filter is from autozone.

everything is "legit" mods.
the only thing people will tell u is to get rid of the vent to atmosphere BOV. that blue Type rs and go with a stock 9 metal diverter valve. Dont know if the car is tuned for speed density to utilize that vta bov or not but going back to a recirculating will help with driveablity.

Yeah I agree dismiss the bov and get a stock 9 bov from a Mr they base model gsr has a plastic bov the evo mr is metallic. Or you can go with a hks sequential bov just make sure its from a legitimate vendor cause there are plenty of fakes running on eBay. I got the forge bov.

sujinx hit the nail on the head.

almost everything made by Greddy, including their blowoff valves (especially the fake ones) are crap, even if it wasn't VTA. The BOLTS on the downpipe connection are from ace hardware, probably because the previous owner couldnt reinstall the dp with the stock bolts. However the springs that the bolts are tightened onto are stock. Also, you should replace all the worm drive clamps with tbolt clamps, you'll save yourself a lot of frustration from blow-off couplers.

Get rid of those worm clamps for sure. Invest in some decent t-bolt clamps and never worry about it again!

dude were like in the same situation. i bought a car with this and that. but come to realize that after i had my way with the car i was finding such bootleg parts and installs. advanced auto and autozone parts. my car has mostly HKS stuff vs you having greddy stuff. best of luck to you and your restoration. my exhaust is fitted the same way. it sucks!
