Mirror very loose and HVAC Control took a crap

Recently I have noticed my rearview mirror is shaking a tremendous amount, is there a way to tighten it? Also, my knob for changing the vents to top/feet/defroster, isnt spinning freely anymore, it has a roughness to it and if I turn it to defrost it shoots back to feet, vice versa, can this be fixed?

If you find a way to fix the mirror let me know, mine has been really loose for a while. When it's warm out, the thing moves during normal driving, I hate it.

We talking about rear view or pass side?

Definitely check on the drivers side if the clip for the HVAC jammed up. I would put some grease on the gears to help it spin freely.

Also don't forget to check and zip tie the ends of the HVAC gears to make sure they stay in place. As for the mirror you have to roll down the mirror to make sure things go easier.

Now you have to pop off the plastic piece interior to expose the three boolts to tighten down the mirror don't over-do it though. Its 12 or 10mm bolts.

Where can I find the HVAC gears on the driver side? Behind the actual unit?
As for as the mirror, I think your describing the side mirrors im talking about the rear view. I took it off the windshield clip and found a metal retainer clip that I extended a bit and I think it may have fixed it, Ill see when I drive. If it did Ill post for you guys to see with pics exactly what I did.

Worked like a charm, here it is guys!

Start by removing the mirror from the windshield, all you do is slide it up.

Then slide the plastic piece down the neck of the mirror.

lastly pull out the retainer clip and stretch it. Youll be pulling each side in opposite directions.

Gears will be by the gas pedal on a white box called a mixer box. If any of the controls get sticky, its not a gear problem. This is a common problem in the early evos and lancers. First thing you need to do is find the hvac guide in evom somewhere. It describes everything you need to do to fix, and prevent this from happening again. The first step is innstalling a cabin filter behind your glovebox. If you pull the glove box you will see an indention in the duct that is rectangular. It seems as if mitsu thought about installing one but didnt until later models. After installing the filter, your next problem is the mixer box. Guess what not having that filter did? You guessed it. Dirt and grime found its way into the mixer box and onto the flaps and gears making your selector knob hard to turn. Removing the box requires removal of the whole front half of the car. At this point you can skip this step to try another solution. You need to buy the revised gear set and install them. The early evo gears had to move way more than the revised set. If installing the new gear set doesnt help, the only option is to remove the mixer box and clean it and re grease it. If you break the temp knob or the selector knob the whole unit has to be replaced as these are made into the unit. The only know that is not and is sold seperate is the fan. So be gentle until you fix the issue.

If you need anything from the control panel itself, I'm replacing mine with a new one after I broke the temp knob, taking a piece of the shaft with it. Anyways, I can probably scrap some parts off the 1/3 broken unit if you need something.

Thanks! I still need to investigate when I get a day off work, but I'll keep you in mind!
