Untuned mods
Does adding mods and not tuning actually make your car slower/perform worse than stock and if, how so. Only asking because this is what I've heard. For example: big cams,I take, intercooler and pipes, TBE, boost controller o2manifold and housing without a proper tune.

U can do a cat back and intake with no tune and might see a few horse but once u start getting into cams and stuff you need a tune plus it's just not good to run the motor like that untuned

How does this topic end up on the forum once a month still....dear god.
IF YOU CHANGE AIR/FUEL/SPARK COMING INTO OR OUT OF YOUR MOTOR YOU NEED A TUNE.
It might run for a while, but it will change your AFR's and runs the risk of damaging your motor. I don't understand why people even consider not getting mods tuned...
Does this sound intelligent at all?:
"Meh it'll be fine i'll just risk $5k dollars worth of motor/labor if something goes wrong so I can put on my sweet new intake/exhaust/cams/injectors/intercooler/intercooler pipe/turbo/etc/etc/etc and HOPE that it gives me some added performance in the interim."
Do it right or don't do it at all....

You must feel very lucky that you didn't destroy any piston. After any mod you must tune it right away , couse in some areas will run more rich and in some other more dry. Τhis is not good for the health of your engine.

To actually answer the OP's question; no, just bolt-ons won't make the car slower untuned than a stock evo. But obviously you're missing out on some of the potential gains by not being tuned for them.
Some of you guys are making it sounds like adding an intake turns the car into an instant ticking time bomb if you don't get tuned. While airflow mods will change AFR to some degree, the evo runs rich enough from the factory that in general it shouldn't be dangerous running without a retune. Although to be sure it's always best to at least do a few logs to verify AFR and knock.

It makes sense if you want to limp the car to a tuner but you are only doing yourself a disservice by changing the performance of the car via parts and then running it on the stock tune.
