I have only had ETS and Injen FMIC units which worked great. However would hate to do a down grade. If this however isnt a down grade and some what better than stock I will gladly slap it on my Evo.

If you're still on a stock turbo and under about 400HP then I'd say not really.. But what it comes down to is who made the knock off, what kind of end tanks does it have, bar and plate? etc.. without actually knowing the brand or more about it, there's no way for us to say yes or no. In my opinion though, knockoff intercoolers tend to heat soak pretty easily and would be more of an aesthetic mod than a performance mod.
But it also depends on what you have done to your car as well..

If it's free I say why not! However I have a Chinese intercooler and am forever wondering what gains I would see from an ets.

Do you have a picture of the front of the IC compared to stock?

Depends on a lot of factors: leaks, dimensions (width, height, depth), design of fins, size of inlet and outlet and geometry/angle of inlet and outlet.

I'd say if it doesnt have any leaks, and it has an overall larger volume (L x W x H) than you would see an improvement. My guess is that your gains would be minimal though.

Definately do a boost leak test.
