Axle won't slide out

Had to pull my axle due to my alternator dieing. I was able to get the axle out of the tcase but when down there I found a slice on my inner cv boot. Ordered the inner boot from mitsu but now I am unable to get the axel out of the hub to slide the inner boot on. I've tried wiggling it, banging it with the axle but on and just dosnt seem to budge . Any tips would be appreciated

Put the axle nut back on the axle and thread it down till its flush with the end of the axle. Spray with penatrating lube. Hit axle/nut with hammer. When you free the axle, remove nut. You install nut so you don't mangle the threads on the axle.

I've had this issue before. Except mine took a 10lbs sledge and pb blaster to remove. Needless to say though I had to hit thr end of the axle hard enough, and enough times that I mushroomed the head of the axle and had to order a new one.

Sorry, read it completely wrong.

Wow hit it with a sledge and it won't come out of the hub. **** man sucks. You can try heat. May damage bearing/axel but at this rate you may damage it anyway.

Good luck

You need SERIOUS heat in the right place. I had this happen to me, I have done countless wheel bearing jobs on cars and never seen anything like what I came across on my axle! It seriously felt like it was welded in. Axles aren't cheap, so take your time. If you do mess up the threads on the axle all is not lost, they can be repaired sometimes.

I had to this happen to me. I mean the shop that I took my car to do the clutch. The shop had to cut the axle out with a torch and replace the axle, hub, and a speed sensor.

The way I popped my axle out of the hub was get a small narror block of wood and lay it over the axle shaft with the nut un threaded enough so the axle can move back enough, and using the nut as a place for the small piece of wood to lay on ( you will hammer on the wood so as to not damage the axle)... then use gentle application of force and hammer it out.

One thing is that the axle needs to slide out straight or your gonna be fighting it. IMO its easier to slide it out of the hub first then after you pop it out of the hub then slide it out of the drivetrain.

I actually found online a thread chaser to fix the threads on axles. Kits are out there and they aren't that expensive compared to a new axle

I had an axle stuck in the hub on my WRX. In the end of the axle was a cone shaped depression that was drilled for the dead center of the lathe that machined it. I have a compressor and air chisel. One of the air chisel bits is cone shaped on the end. Insert bit - loud noise - lots of vibration - axle removed.

When doing that I like to use the old nut and have it sit about flush with the edge of the shaft in case the air hammer fitting happens to slip you wont ruin the threads. Its much easier to replace the nut.
