75k miles, driven year round (plenty of snow). No problems so far.

I had to rebuild mine last year because of corrosion. For about three months I was getting a whine in the front of my car. That led to the three lights of death which I should have addressed sooner. The pump eventually died and I purchased a used one from Florida which even with 55k on it the pump was in pristine condition. If you do a search there is someone on the boards that sells a rebuild kit for the ACD pump. It's a pretty easy repair. The problem with the corrosion from what I understand is that if you live in a state that still uses salt(heavily) on the roads for winter then you might have a problem. Also when you rebuild your pump I would recommend using a good RTV sealant when you're done. And if you start hearing a whine under your left headlight, rebuild the pump before it dies, much cheaper than buying a new/used pump.

Bought my Evo IX SE brand new in February 2007, zero problems with the ACD. 100% bone stock in sunny SoCal.

My ACD pump going out was the only real issue I've ever had with my car. Luckily the dealer took care of it no questions asked. On hot days I started getting all 3 lights and had them check it out. I was without my car for a day or two but it was covered under warranty.

all my old IX did was once while storing it over the winter, I went to start it up and the lights flashed, cycled the ignition and turned it on again and it was fine. Was weird, but never had a problem and I sold it with 68.5k miles

Haven't had any problems yet! I've flushed the fluid twice now since owning the car though, just to be safe. I'm over 70k on the clock at the moment, I'm also in an area that doesn't see heavy snow fall so the roads aren't salted heavily during winter.

Since it is the insides of the pump that corrodes it has to be that the fluid is becoming wet. Maybe frequent fluid changes it the fix.

no, that is not the case at all..

the insides of the pump that are in contact with hydraulic oil are perfect. However, water/salt gets onto the part of the plate that is not sealed by O ring + frequently gets between the motor and the pump...

Also, the small part of the solenoid that is above the O ring corrodes to the pump body..

Mine failed at 99k miles (daily driven all year round in Pennsylvania since I bought the car new). I sent it down to ACD tuning, and when Matt received my pump he said it was by far the worst one he had seen. I didn't even get the three lights as a warning. The only warning I got was a strange whining/moaning sound for 10 seconds after I turned the steering wheel all the way after a cold start and that was it. I checked the ACD fluid reservoir and it was fine; I thought it was the power steering pump. Then the next day when I went to the garage to leave for work, I saw a large puddle of ATF on the floor. My pump actually popped open/separated at the joint between the motor and the pump body; one of the screw heads had broken off as well. So I think that the corrosion might have been so bad that it forced the two halves apart. In the end, Matt recommended I just buy a used pump which is what I did

It sounds like if you live in the upper half of the US or Canada, you will probably get this problem. If you live in the lower half of the US or Mexico, you will be ok.

Basically, if you live where the roads get salted, you will eventually have this problem. Has anyone found the opposite to be true in their case?
