So I Did a Compression test... And well...

#1 - 185
#2 - 177
#3 - 182
#4 - 183

Isn't that super high? motor has 131,XXX miles and I like how it's pretty consistent, but seems a little? Also, cranked the motor with the throttle valve open all the way. Is this okay?? I should have done my research prior.

Any help? Thanks!

i know for the 8, you are supposed to do it at WOT, norm op temp (176-203 degrees F), minimum limit is 138 psi, "standard" is 163 psi the main thing is you want to make sure they are within 14 psi of eachother mine were 175 across the board. so your results are good!
im sure the 9 isnt much difft. congrats! lol

It's an 8 with 9 bumper and turbo.

I like the consistency though...is there a such thing as to high?

Higher is only better within normal operating ranges.

The higher the compression, the more likely to have detonation. This is why it is frowned upon to put turbos on non turbo high compression engines. High compression is great if you don't have a turbo. If you have a turbo, the higher the compression goes the more likely you are to have detonation at high boost levels, and the mapping has to compensate for that. Your compression sounds fine though. 100k+ engines in good health are usually 160-180, nothing abnormal there.

The bumper and turbo has nothing to do with compression

the numbers are fine, end of thread.

he was just saying that because i said the limits for the 8s compression test, but i was sure the 9 wasnt much difft because it seemed like he drove a 9 by his pic.

Yeah what he said. I'm pretty sure that the numbers couldn't be much different. But thanks!
