First time working on the evo - fluids

Hey guys,
So, today my it was my first time gettin real dirty under her.

Was doing fluids today.

Transfer case was a PAIN IN THE A**.
Tranny was easy.
Doing rear diff tomorrow.

Anyways, I just want to make sure that my transfer case is full.

Everytime I pump oil it would leak out... So I'd pump, put on the fill plug, rotate the wheels a few times, wait some time.and check the fill plug. I did this multiple times.. and at the end there was a good amount of oil leaking out of the fill plug.

I did not track how much diaqueen I put in, i would say about 1/8 of the Gallon jug, soo about 500ML . ROUGH estimate

Can I assume I am safe?

Thanks guys
Cheers

For CT9A:

Transmission
2.9 quarts GL-4
SAE 75W-90W
I highly suggest Redline MT-90

Transfer Case and Rear Differential
Both are 0.58 Quarts
Diaqueen LSD Gear Oil
Part #3775610

As long as the car is level, just pump in fluid till it flows out of the fill hole and then cap it.

Thanks for quick response.

My fluids are correct, so I am covered there.

I was just worried about fluid leaking out of the xfer case fill plug, every time I pumped into it. Was wondering if others experienced the same thing..

Jacks Transmissions has a how to on filling it from the drain hole. Ive done that before, didn't really like doing it that way.

As far as filling from the fill hole, One trick I found is that you just gotta be a little patient. Pump the fluid into the tc slowly, just a little at a time. The capacity is a bit over 1/2 quart so you should have at least that much in there before it starts pouring out the fill hole. If you do it like that it should only start pouring out when its properly filled. Then just wait a bit and pump a bit more in a few times then wait to verify and you should be good. Filling the TC just takes a bit of patience sometimes.

It might be tough to get the last bit of fluid in. Usually once I am at 500mL I will bolt everything up and take it for a short drive around the block. It helps heat up the fluid and make more space.

You can also raise the rear higher so that you can overfill the T-case.

Yep, on my last pump I put back the fill plug, rotated tires, waited ~7 minutes for the oil to settle, and then checked the level. Fluid was coming out of the fill plug.
I think I am good to go.
And yes i've seen the way to fill through the drain hole, but I didn't have the fittings. I've read that guide over @ Jack Transmissions.

You don't need the fittings, that's just a cleaner way. You can stick the tube from the pump up the drain, then use your free hand to plug around it. it works just fine, just more messy. It ties up both your hands so that may suck for a bit, but its only half a quart so that way doesn't take long.

Its the poor mans version but it works.

Am I the only one who doesn't like redline for the trans? Everyone always recommends it but I much prefer diaqueen, there is a noticeaby wors feel with the redlinee in shifting especially when cold to me.

Rear diff is easy a little tricky to get the fill bolt out and back in if using a ratchet and socket it can be tight, but definitely the easies of the three to do

Depends if your just using mt90 in the trans or are you dong the redline cocktail? I have tried various fluids in the trans, oem diaqueen, synchromesh, shockproof, mt90, amsoil, and redline cocktail. The redline cocktail has worked the best in my transmission. Some of the other fluids were really notchy when cold, had issues with higher rpm lockout, and some of the others listed actually made trans noisier.

Redline Cocktail seems to work really well in my trans so that's why I recommend it. ymmv.

Agree with the redline cocktail. 2xMT90 and 1xMTL is what I use in the summer, and for winter I switch it around to 2xMTL and 1xMT90.
