Noticed my drain plug has a wire attached. Is this stock, what's it for?

Correct, its for your oil temp. According to your sig you have an MR which IIRC comes with the gauge pack so its most likely stock.

Random but OP I take it you recently purchased it? If so congrats on the pickup. Where in MA are you from?

 

Ya just picked it up last week. It's missing the gauges, car needs some tlc. I live in wareham, was looking to get another rx7 but found this and couldn't pass it up. So just taking my time going through it fixing the broken things and returning some things back to stock.

 

Yep, it's the factory oil temp sensor (stock on MR and RS). If you really want to install the factory oil temp gauge, I believe you have to buy the gauge and the sensor as a pair. In other words, you won't be able to just go buy the gauge since you already have a sensor. You can find them for sale on here (used) as a set sometimes
