Noise coming from wheel

Hey guys, I recently purchased an 06 Evo IX MR and am very happy with it so far. Although Im trying to figure this one problem out.

There is a noise from the rear passenger side wheel, sounds like something is rubbing against the tire and the speed of the noise go faster as I accelerate. I checked out the tire and nothing is touching it, looked for anything not normal in the wheel well and all seems to be okay.

When I apply the brakes, the noise will go away. Once I release the noise is back. It happens at all times and any speed.

I really dont know what the problem can be. Has anyone experienced this, had a similar problem or have a suggestions?

Thanks.

Dont be lazy and take the wheel off and check for play in the bearing or anything that could be rubbing. Simple as that!

Before you remove the wheel and after it's up on Jackstands or a lift, see if there is a lot of resistance when you try and spin the wheels by hand

I suspect bad wheel bearing from the sound of it.

Alright. Ill check it out again once I roll it in the garage. I only drive this car on the weekends. How exactly would I know its a faulty bearing? Shake the wheel 12-6 once its in the air?

Thanks for all your suggestion do far

Take it in and get it balanced. I had the same problem for two months and couldn't figure out what it was. I was ripping of rotors. calipers, pads, everything. It ended up being a bent wheel smacking the spring base.

Well i got another chance to look at the wheel and while it was on jack stands, I tried to feel for some play in the bearing my moving the wheel 12-6 and 9-3. Everything seems nice and snug.

Then I grabbed the wheel at 3 oclock and gave it a good yank and I felt it give a little bit and heard a some noise pop. So not sure.

rotated the wheel while it was in the air and has a lot of resistance. Didnt know how much was right so I checked the other side too and seems to be the same.

I think at this point I will take it to a mechanic and have him take a better look at things.

Any other comments or suggestion? Greatly appreciated

Could be your dust shield touching the rotor. This happened to me. It would stop when I applied the brakes as well.

When I bought my evo, the fender liner was pretty trashed, there wasn't enough of it to clip to the bumper. So I suddenly started hearing this squeaking, which put wheel bearings to mind. To me, it sounded like a brake lathe. but what got me was, say I turn left or right, no noise at all. I ended up zip tying what was left of the fender liners to various places and the noise completely went away. Most ridiculous thing ever haha!

I'll take another look tomorrow and double check on that dust shield. I hope its something simple like that. My fender liners all look good so far so i shouldnt be getting trouble from them. i'll post back with the results tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions guys

Maybe a bad tire? My tire tread was worn unevenly and that caused a "bumping" feel/sound, not necessarily a rubbing. Might need an alignment.

Try making sure there's brake grease on the back of the pad. could just be the pad rattling in the caliper, and braking stops the movement.

Well I took a look at it again tonight, the dust shield seems to be in good shape, no dents/bends and its not touching anything.

I took a good look, grabbing everything and yanking on it making sure everything is nice and snug. All seems to be good.

Took a look at the calipers and I can wiggle the inside break pad a little bit. Id say about an 1/8 of play. Couldnt really tell if it was greased for most of it is covered and im not exactly sure what im looking for. Do I need to take it apart?

Oh and the tires a brand new winter tires.

Here is a picture. I did notice that there is a rubber hanger chilling there with nothing attached to it? Anyone know what belongs here?

Thanks for the help so far, I really appreciate your guys' help
