I had an epiphany after that last post. So the speed sensor fits over that toothed ring, measuring the time between each tooth passing. When you brake, the speed sensor detects the gap as a singular gap, instead of the three it actually is, defining it as a significant deceleration.

After several freak outs from this detection of sudden deceleration and acceleration the ABS computer says "**** it, I quit" and goes to sleep and turns on the light.

I'd start with the axle, seeing as you know it's broken, see if that solves all. If you have further issues keep trying.

thanks!

Do you know what may have hit that tooth and chipped it? Was it the sensor?

Without seeing the mechanism, the speed sensor is the only thing I can think that it could have come into contact with. It depends on which way the axle moved when you hit the curb though.

Poke your head in and have a look around where the toothed ring was, see if you can spot the point it came into contact with. Hopefully there is enough dirt/dust that there will be a clean spot where it hit.
