Pulling motor
#17
No if u re read I said I'll probably just pull them both out but someone else is telling me to pull just the trans or the bottom so I don't how I'll do it until Todd weekend which will be easier.. but my second question has yet to be answered.

There are times it makes sense to pull it. I wish I did to begin with. The trans/t-case are being sent out for rebuild/upgrades. I'm replacing head studs, cams, t-belt, exhaust manifold, turbo, and clutch. I have an engine hoist, I have an engine stand. What I don't have is a good way to support the motor for doing all this work while the trans/t-case are getting worked on.

Rent, buy, or borrow an engine hoist and pay extra for the load leveler. This will make your job so much easier. The front undercarriage will want to hook the transmission and it will be much easier to pull it forward with a hoist. Also it’s not the most balanced hunk of metal which is why I recommend a good load leveler. I'm sure there are people that have done it without one but I mainly did the job solo so the hoist and load leveler was money well spent for me. I took the eng and trans out from the top as a whole and installed it back in from below. Either way will work and in my opinion there wasn't much difference for me. I've also put a clutch in with the motor still in and its MUCH easier to line up the trans with the input shaft with the motor out of the car. I wouldn't pull the motor if I only had to change the clutch or timing belt as separate jobs but since you're working on the timing belt and stuff at the same time you might as well pull the motor and give yourself more room to work. Good luck!

Having pulled several evo motors and probably a few hundred timing belts and clutch jobs I would leave it in the car....

Well not only that, he now says he is doing more to it, which doesn't really make sense based on his first post and just wasting our time. If you are leaning towards pulling the motor then just do it and don't say that you only need to do T-Belt and Clutch, because obviously in your later post you will be doing more, so just pull it and don't listen to what we say.

What wasting time your time by saying I'm doing head studs and Rear plate fix. I asked for opinions and I got them but I guess that's wasting people's time. Doing those 2 other things have no bearing on weather I pull the motor or not. I have a picker and engine stand.

Really? All I asked was if I could pull just the motor. They said no it's easier pulling the whole thing I said ok. Then someone stayed saying just pull the trans alone. Ok then. Now I'm wasting people's time. Unless my second question can be answered stop posting

If your second question was the wave clip question then yes, they're talking about running extra wave springs to try to keep the wedge collar from popping off. Or, you can buy an ACT Monoloc and stop the worrying. A clutch fork stop is added insurance as well.
People may be confusing my post about all the additional work I'm doing with yours. Don't worry about it, it's the internet.
