Lots of opinions when people run ethanol. The accurate way to get fact data in your unique situation is to send a sample of OIL to the laboratory for an accurate answer.

My past experience has been with a premium OIL not a semi synthetic like Mobil 1, and the 100% full synthetic was able to be run 6,000 miles with blackstone lab saying run another 1,000 miles and check back again. Every situation is different so you must do oil analysis to figure it out. Since E85 is harsher on OIL that regular 93 octane pump gas.

If i was on stock motor id run Amsoil Z-Rod 10w-30 and change it every 3k.

I currently have a built motor so i run Brad Penn 20w-50 and change it every 3 months or 2.5k miles

right the ZDDP in the Zrod 10W30 or 20W50 OIL will reduce the amount of extra oxidation caused by an alcohol based fuel such as Ethanol. In other words cylinder wash caused by ethanol will be somewhat mitigated by the ZDDP

Brad Penn,, back in the days 1950s Pennsylvania petro OIL was much better than Gulf of mexico 50 weight OIls

After doing some research on the various properties of oil... I have found that mobile one is crap oil... I dont recommend anything less ten 15/40 to my customers based on the fact lesser oils break down in the turbo causeing thrust bearing galling... And leave the bearings unprotected... If you upgrade to zero tick lifters 20/50 bp oil is a great option but with upgraded lifters you could be doing your valve train an injustice... Never drive a car cold on thicker oils as they have vastly higher viscocities at 40*c then at 80... But at temp they flow relatively well and shouldnt cause any issues other then not plumping the lifters... The added shear protection in the high grades is great for turbos. If you run 5/30 or 10/30 and run your car hard then prepare to kiss your turbo goodbye...

All applications are different and some may not experience any issue from thinner oils...

Apagan01, so zrod is a good oil for my set up ? It's a stock motor stock turbo on e85. And I'm in cali so it's mostly warn weather, and the e85.is pretty consistent at 88-89%

For a stock motor 10/30 is ok no ? I heard thicker isn't ideal for stock motors

I see alot of hate for Mobil 1, but i have personally run it for 140k miles on my evo. When my timing belt tentioner let go at 125k i tore it down and all my bearings looked amazing, the cam journals didnt have as much as a scuff on them. No sign of sludge anywhere. Original turbo had no shaft play and no sign of coking what so ever. I would put more emphasis on using a quality oil filter and proper oil change intervals then on spending mad money on boutique oils.

My car has been ran for 60k on Mobile 10-30 and is doing well 93 octane

Might be an amateur question but how would a different fuel have an effect on the oil?

Does running e85 change anything about the oil you use or the intervals? I didnt think the two were related?

Even Mobil 1 will tell you not to use any oil when running ethanol.

Why the hell when it comes to engine protection we always want to get the cheapest. The tendency is ill just go to wall Mart and buy the cheapest oil I can find. When the internals of an engine or turbo surely benefit from a good well designed synthetic oil.

Mobil 1 carries the API SN rating Here is their product guide.

Too many people buy into snake oil. I run what mitsubishi tells us to run and I'm sure even that is overkill.

Go to Walmart by the $19 jug and call it a day. As mentioned above run a good filter. I run mitsubishi oem filters that I buy in bulk.

Jeff not to ruffle feathers here but have you looked at the oil filter test done here? For the price and the much much better protection do yourself a favor.

start buying purolator one filters from advance or wix from OReillys. They do twice the job the om filter could dream of.

Also just one time change your oil to a better full synthetic 15-40 or 20-50. Then do an analysis, you'll thank the members of this forum later and your motor will thank you instantly. Mobile one will never ever touch my car. Also if you look at price, Lucas racing oil can be bought for 20 a gallon and it ****s on mobile one in terms of alcohol compatability, avoidance of thermal breakdown, and film strength.
