Reliability and longevity concerns

Thinking now about picking up an evo 8 with higher mileage. I'm wondering how long these things actually last (assuming the car is well cared for). I don't really wanna spend a ton of money on a toy so i was thinking of picking one up in the 80-110k range. Is this just a bad idea? or will i get many more happy miles out of a well cared for car?

I don't think it'll be a problem if it was well-cared for, of course you'll have stuff to replace eventually but the car shouldn't be broken down all the time. My car has ~103k miles and has been extremely reliable, its also my DD and auto-x car; I keep up with maintenance such as oil changes and drivetrain fluid changes as well as stuff like timing belt/water pump. Beware though, a beat-up high mileage Evo will take a decent chunk of change to get running right.

I bought an evo with 80k on the clock. It has been nothing but reliable. I had all the fluids changed drivetrain and engine as well as the timing belt and water pump and new plugs right after i bought it. Clutch is still stock as well. If it was well cared for you will be fine.

I can chime in.

I bought a 2005 evo with 102,500 miles on it. It was modified with bolt-ons(stock turbo). Car has been stout. Radiator finally called it quits, nothing to complain about after this many miles. My clutch is now slipping so that needs to be replaced as well.
