Evo 8 v Evo 10

Evo 8 v Evo 10
okay so i didn't really know where to post this and this is by no means me trying to start a flame war over these two models.
I currently own a 2005 Evo 8 SSL in Apex Silver. i love my car. It's what I always wanted since I was younger. The car currently has 108,xxx miles and going. She performs really well, the only problem i have had thus far was my hub bearings needed to be replaced as well as my clutch. recently (thanks to my many a ******* friends) i have thought about selling my evo 8 and picking up a newer evo 10. I have no problems with the newer model. Not really a fan of the rear end but it can be overlooked. The idea is newer car less problems. However this can be untrue sometimes. It's something I want to keep for the rest of my life so realistically the less miles on it the better. i don't really know what I want to do. you can contribute me being on deployment for around 8 months so far to me wanting to sell it. i haven't driven it in a while, my dad has it at the moment. Any advice is really appreciated.

Are you having a lot of problems with the Evo 8? I'd just keep it if you really like it and its reliable. Having driven an X it is super easy to drive and more comfortable. The suspension is more plush and the aesthetics like the dash are nice. If you live in place where it snows be weary of the ACD pump as they are plagued with the same failures as the 2005 Evo 8 and Evo 9. I say test drive one to get your own feelings. I think the X's look cool and drive nice but I love my 8 and don' t think I could trade it for a X; I'd just buy a X and keep the 8 if its' feasible lol. Good luck with your decision.

How much money do you have invested in the current car? If not much and the X is more appealing to you then I say why not. If you have a ton of mods and time invested in your current car then if it was me I would have a hard time getting go of it. On a side note thank you for your service to our country, I really appreciate it and good luck with whatever you decide to do. PS I don't like the 4B11T personally but that's an opinion not a factual statement lol and the 4G63 is like a 20 year old design but to me that's a good thing because it has been proven to be a good engine. I'm sure the 4B is good to I just love how easy the 4G is to work on.

Test drive test drive test drive! I was a signature away from trading in my 9 MR for a 2013 X GSR. I kept telling myself I would get use to how much bigger and less "Evo like" the X felt. Every time I drive my car I feel like I really dodged a bullet by not picking up the X.
FYI, if you take your 8 to a dealer they will most likely pressure you hard. They want to get their hands on 8's and 9's because they are easy quick turnarounds. I have bought a lot of cars, this was easily the most pressure from a dealer I have ever had. On the plus side they offered me $24k on the trade, I'm sure they were screwing me somewhere in the numbers but I couldn't believe it when they came back with that number, it's crazy high for a dealer trade.

I drove an evo8 for years and loved that thing to death (It was only lowered on springs and had a short shifter). Electrical problems early on, a/c problems early in it's life and had to get the transfer case replaced among other things. I think the dealer offered something like $8k with maybe 110k miles on it and a number of problems.
The X is a totally different animal. It feels a hell of a lot more bloated and while more comfortable, it's not the reason I bought an evo. I would KILL to have it handle and take turns like the 8. It seems to rattle a hell of a lot more (drives me out of my mind) and I find myself worrying MUCH more about the mechanical components and longevity of the car compared the 8 (and I only have 10k miles on the X so far). The ACD pump is a common issue and from the way people speak about the fuel pump relay, you should replace it every so often or risk killing the engine. I noticed very early on that when taking a sharp left turn with less than half a tank of gas, you run into a fuel starvation issue that can cause problems (I'm completely stock). I could whine about a lot of other little things, but one last thing that seemed to be of note is the power band. Maybe it's just me, but the X doesn't feel like a turbo'd car in the way the 8 did. Power is much better off the line, but band seems more linear like a large V6. Felt more like my s/c car than the 8. I could floor it in the 8 on the highway and just wait for the turbo to kick in, but with the X I tend to floor it and it revs to holy hell and makes a ton of noise, but doesn't really take off.
The smile that the 8 used to put on my face is now replaced with a mild smirk at times and where I used to step out of the 8 and have a smoke after a joyous, sexy, and exhilarating ride, I now step out and smoke because I'm worried that part of the car just contracted syphilis....

Having own both here is my advice. I had an 8 for long time, however It got hit from the rear at the red light. After insurance paid me out I bought a brand new X. Had it for less than a year did full boltons e85 tune. Recently sold it and in the market for another 8

This is an easy math problem--
rough numbers , clutch 2k, bearings and hubs 1k, drive car for another 80k.
so 3 grand buys you anther 5-8 yrs of bliss.
So, new X runs 35-40K ( guessing) and you want this car you have never driven for the rest of your life..
Fix what you have, save the money and you'll thank me in the years to come.
Good luck, thx for your service.

Lol @ Adam, you're funny. Good explanation and I have not personally owned a X, I won't be in the market for one any time soon. I have owned 2 VIII's and I currently own an electric blue IX that I love. I will never get rid of this car. Drove it off the lot with 8 miles on it back in '06. This one will be with me forever.

I have to agree with Adam. All the X's I drove just didn't seem to have that "it factor" that the VII's and IX's have. I drove several X's thinking new might be better and was close to making my decision based on that idea, but in the end I realized the reason I wanted an Evo was for the "it factor". Good luck on what ever you decide. And thank you for your service.

I'd keep the car you have now if it is pretty much problem-free and you like it. These cars will go a really long time if maintained well. I wouldn't recommend trading it for a X if you love the feel of the car you have now... Or you may find yourself looking for another and they're only getting harder to find.
Wait, how plagued with ACD pump failures do you think the 05-06 Evos are?

Having an 05 myself my acd pump was completely corroded and was so bad i couldnt rebuild it. I found a used one and covered all the places where i thought water could get in with silicone. I also tried not to drive it when the roads were salty. We'll see how long it holds up. Wish it was mounted in the trunk or better protected.

For me, any pre "X" evo over the X. Not because the X isn't a great car because it is, but it's gotten away from "evo" roots in my opinion. Don't like the styling without the varis kit. Literally, i do not like the look of a stock X, it HAS to have atleast the varis front bumper for me to like it, while on the other hand I feel the 8/9 have a timeless stock look.
