ecu replacement?

Just curious my evo was broken into and the thieves took my radio ecu and seats. Anyways I was wondering if I can just buy another ecu and slap it in or would I have to get it programmed with my key at the dealer. Or can I just replace the ignition swich with matching key and ecu from a wrecked evo locally

Not positive about the answer but this may help. I had an issue that I thought was my ecu. I took my friends ecu and plugged it in. Opened my ecu flash and flashed in everything from my ecu into his. There is an imobilizer code in the ecu. My car started right up with my key and his ecu after reflashing. So i would say if you or your tuner have your tune saved in a laptop you could by any ecu and flash it back to your specs

If you have a ROM from your old ECU on your computer you're fine, as you'll have your immobilizer code in it which you'll be able to copy over to the new ECU. Otherwise you can always just disable the immobilizer until you get it reprogrammed (or just leave it disabled permanently, though that's not recommended obviously)
