Driver MODS first.
Go to the locale auto cross events and track days. Get used to the car, get some seat time and when you get enough seat time, thats the time you mod your car so you can pinpoint exactly what you needed to change to the car to match your driving style.
Don't be like one of those guys who mod their car to a point that it is not enjoyable to drive anymore then they sell their car. Or mods the **** out of the car that it totally change the behavior of the car.
This way you will save more money
