Trying to get into EVO's

So little back story, haven't posted much on this forum... well due to I don't have an evo. Always wanted one since I got into my first Subaru. Something about an AWD car takes supremacy over any rwd or fwd (which I've never owned)

Currently building my 98RS (GM6) for time attack, to be finished up come summer time, but that still leaves me with a track ***** and not really a said fun DD. Being 23 have 2 kids (one is adopted different baby daddy) its hard to financially purchase an evo. But hopefully now that things are getting a little more sound I can pick up at least a shell for a winter project.

Just a few questions for you EVO die hards out there (and yes I've thought about swapping a 4G63 into my Subaru already rather than the 237) But what am I looking at for costs for a shell or even a rolling shell... Been trying to talk myself into hunting one down but I personally like starting from scratch.

Also want some insight on how yall truly like your cars, whether for racing or just DD like I'm hoping for. Personally I'd like a 400-500 whp DD just to enjoy it when I'm not dragging kids around.

What's not to like about them lol? Superior motor, takes mods so much easier and just eats the competition in every aspect.

I can appreciate a good subbie and would love to DD one but it seems if you want to go over 400 it plateaus and takes too much money. Plus I'm not into the whole stage 2, 3, 3.14159 BS. The owners and community don't seem as good as what we have here.

Haha exactly why I'd like to jump on building one. Myself in terms of the Subaru world... don't classify under the whole guidelines of the stages of a car. I build a car knowing what I want to make, I call it stage sean.

But hopefully I can find myself a decent shell to build as a winter project seeing as my car won't be done until august. But thanks for the words of wisdom man.

i DD mine to work every day, what i would suggest since your going to build one from scratch is get teh MR bilstein suspension with a good set of springs for comfort and performance, GTworx or swift Spec-r, i took a ride in a friends with this setup and it was very comfortable.

As for tuning, get a fuel economy tune for the boring commute and a small netbook to flash your power tune when you want to have fun, this way you can have fun but still save money at the pump.

since you want 400-500 i would stay away from the 6 speed as they can be iffy, some hold power just fine and others like my old one dont and will break. oh, and get a good clutch for traffic so one leg isnt huge compared to the other when your not driving.

I DD my evo with the mods in the sig, I am at 90k stock pistons rods etc. I drive my car the way it was meant to be driven, I have driven it from California to Florida, then Florida to North Carolina, then NC back to Fl and FL back to NC. the car is great and easy to work on

I came from the Subaru world. I like the Evolution so much better than my old Subaru(07 WRX), Of course I was an idiot and got mine for stupid cheap, but in the end the Evolution is still a better car. MPGs are my biggest hit, but thats basically it. and of course the problems that have been fixing since ownership. All i need now is to install TB shaft seals.

As far as a daily driver, its still a good car. My motor still has stock bottom end. I think....134k and strong pulls every now and then the motor seems sound. I was working on my friends STi, and its a pain. Stilla great car though.

Good luck on your search.

Thanks for all the info guys. Defiantly making it easier for me to drop money on a shell knowing what I'm getting into.

Currently on the hunt have had a few PM's from members hopefully one of them will be the gem I'm looking for to grab up

And yes... I had a GSX easy to work on when needing maintenance or just doing any work to it... as.... my Subaru's.... impossible to get any work done on my own especially considering you need to pull the motor pretty much every time.
