what do you think of your evo?

I'm in the market for an evo, a lot of my buddies keep telling me not to buy an evo because everyone is always fixing them and what have you, they claim to keep reading that people are having such trouble with their evos and spend a lot of time fixing them. Just wondering what you owners have to say about your cars

Don't own an evo but worked on them and also own a Subaru. Honestly what you just said goes for EVERY car known to man. People have biased opinons.

Look at Subaru's owned 3-4 of them 2 of them swapped and my current one now... a lot of maintaining them and typical headgasket water pump issues with everyone... Does that mean they all suck... No... just means the owners of the cars neglected them.

Another thing is tune ups, performance upgrades, ect and getting proper tunes from a reliable shop.

Usually any boosted car, evo/sti/srt4/wrx/gtr and V8's mustang/Camaro/corvette/transam ect will be beat on by their owners. Keep that in mind as well. If you pick one up I'd say go for a bone stock low miles one and you'll be happy. Every car has its own issues and every owner maintains cars differently.

Evos are high maintenance cars. But they are high yield cars as well. If you take care of your car, it will take care of you. If you neglect the maintenance or beat on it too much, it will beat up your wallet.

You should have listened to your buddies. Never marry a super-model. Talk about high maintenance!

ur friends are not wrong.
tons of problems, tons of money and lots of maintenance.

not trying to scare u. its not a civic where it lasts forever. its pretty expensive to maintain.
heck u might get lucky and not have any problems at all.

i daily mine now, its good but seals are starting to wear here and there and its kinda annoying. fix one thing, something else breaks.

I think it all depends on how deeply you mod it, your driving habits and how well you keep up on the regular scheduled maintenance. If you mod it to 600whp, beat on it and daily drive it, I'm sure things will break. If you mod it to 400whp, dont abuse it and keep up on changing the fluids and other maintenance, then you should be fine.

I love it! Mine has been very reliable so far and I am sure it will stay reliable if I maintain it. Its hard not to mod it and drive it aggressively because its soo damn fun.

Best vehicle I've ever owned/driven. Yes all cars will need repairs and maintenance, but my evo was a gift to myself. Something that I have wanted for years and it is well worth the work that I will put in.

I would not have bought one randomly off Craigslist, I waited for a particular shop that specializes in evos to have one for sale. It was completely gone through before the purchase, 60k severice, rebuilt transmission, along with other odds and ends.

I'm crazy about the car, its addictive

Triple the hp of any car and things do break, its bound to happen.

One thing to look for when buying a used evo, is they are cars that tend to get driven hard. So in your search for a used one, if thats what your looking for, make sure you get one from a good seller, that has records, receipts, whatever it takes to make you comfortable.

Most guys that I know, work on their evos, not cause they are broken, but because they are constantly modding them lol.

I have 170,XXX miles with routine maintenance, never missed an oil change and such

I have intake, intercooler pipes, downpipe, exhaust, ECU Tune by English racing

Suspension is Whiteline front anti-sway bar, Agency Power rear anti-sway bar ,Tein springs, Whiteline roll center correction kit.

Autocross monthly, sometimes twice a month. Daily driver and runs like a champ with no problems.

Buttom line is don't be stupid on your mods like most of the guys in here when they push so much power and expect the car to be reliable daily drivers. You upgrade one thing, you have to upgrade all.

Everything needs to be balance to a point where you need to match the power of the car with the suspension and brakes. You ruin that balance then that's when you start having problems.
