Evo 2, gsr common problems?
Hey guys. im new to this forum, and also to the evo world. well almost.
Coming from a nissan world of skylines and silvias, i'm starting to take a look to moving onto the mitsubishi evo world, a bit at least.
I own 2 skylines and dont want a racecar, i want a reliable, winter / summer daily driver, but before i buy an evo i want to know a bit more about them.
I currently have spotted a JDM lancer evo 2 gsr, all stock, and want to know if there are any major problems, common problems that occure on those evos, something to know before you buy, something I should consider modifying and or replace before it breaks down on me to make it reliable, I want the car to be reliable/ longest lasting possible.
i have searched a bit throughout the internet but nothing really precise. thats why i subbed and ask you pros of lancers for tips and suggestions! thanks guys.

The early Evos are decently reliable, but there are a few things to watch.
1) Rust. The roof especially, but undercoat it if you can.
2) Bushings. They aren't great stock, and give up pretty quickly, causing some nice knocking issues.
3) Powertrain is almost identical to a 2g DSM, maintain it as one.
Join Evo123.net if you have any chassis-specific questions, odds are that it's been answered there before.

I've had a few friends with evo 1-3 as well, I've just seen the typical DSM related issues on them as well. Change timing belt if questionable, take a look at the ECU to make sure there are no capacitor leaks. No major faults with the cars that I have ever seen.
